BRIGHTON

Race 4 No7 CELTIC JOHN (Each Way)
Trainer: Pat Phelan – Jockey: Paddy Bradley

Very interesting in this bottom grade 1400 metres handicap is CELTIC JOHN. A winner at Lingfield earlier n the year, he looked to be given far too much to do on a return to that track last time and was gaining hand over fist at the finish. He’s back to a mile on grass, but if there’s a decent pace he can pick them off up the final hill.

Race 6 No2 DARK SUN (Each Way)
Trainer: James Bennett – Jockey: Laura Coughlan

DARK SUN regularly makes the podium but didn’t enjoy much luck in running when fourth on her latest start at Windsor. Her trainer adds first time cheek pieces, which could help the Dark Angel filly belatedly open her account.

CHEPSTOW

Race 2 No5 REGULUS BLACK
Trainer: Hugo Palmer – Jockey: Ross Coakley

REGULUS BLACK proved costly on handicap bow at Beverley but has delighted his trainer in his subsequent work. The son of Palace Pier also movies up the distance ladder, and can make amends.

Race 3 No4 ALFARAZ (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: David Probert

Nathaniel colt ALFARAZ showed promise on both juvenile starts but couldn’t cut the mustard on his seasonal return at Newbury. It looked disappointing at first sight, though the winner went on to land the Lingfield Derby Trial, while he now competes with a first time hood. It will hopefully be a different horse we see today.

Race 7 No10 TOO MUCH TREVOR
Trainer: G Harris – Jockey: Olivia Tubb

TOO MUCH TREVOR receives upwards of 6lb from his opponents and that’s without factoring in his pilot’s 5lb claim. The five-year-old had ROMANOVICH and CONNIE’S ROSE behind him when second on his latest start, putting him in a good place to open his account at the 30th attempt.

CARLISLE

Race 2 No6 CALL NICKI
Trainer: Tim Easterby- Jockey: Duran Fentiman

CALL NICKI has troubled the judge on both starts at Thirsk and can put that experience to good use on a track whose stiff finish should play to her strengths. The Soldier’s Call filly has the best form, and looks ready to win.

Race 5 No3 ALPINE SIERRA (Nap)
Trainer: Jim Goldie – Jockey: Lauren Young

ALPINE SIERRA put together a sequence of good runs in defeat, but since scoring at Hamilton he appears to have turned a corner. He followed up in cosy fashion at Musselburgh last week when looking very good value for his margin of victory, and the hat-trick looks on the cards off this 4lb higher mark.

Race 7 No8 EMERALD ARMY
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: James Sullivan

EMERALD ARMY has improved from race to race this season, most recently just being foiled at Catterick. He’s due to go up 2lb next week and from a tempting mark can cash in as his trainer goes for a quick return to the track.

WOLVERHAMPTON

Race 3 No6 ZARAKOVA
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy

The powerfully Balding-Murphy combination have strong chances at the evenings fixture starting with ZARAKOVA. The daughter of Zarak has a plum draw against the rail and is a beautifully bred individual who has been winning her gallops.

Race 6 No4 MYTHICAL BAY
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy

MYTHICAL BAY found one to beat him at Chester whilst doing nothing wrong. He had opened his account on a previous start on sand and should relish this return to the AW in a tight handicap where he receives weight from the other three contenders.
