Chiefs back-rower Simon Parker is the headline addition, with the rookie coming straight into the main squad following the July series.

Parker has enjoyed an outstanding season in Super Rugby Pacific but missed the latter stages of the season through injury.

However, now fully fit and available, the blindside flanker, who can also feature at number eight, could make his Test debut over the next few weeks.

“Simon Parker had an impressive Super Rugby season with the Chiefs and brings a valuable skill set and physicality that we are looking forward to working with,” head coach Scott Robertson said.

“He has the ability to play blindside or number eight and has gained experience in a number of New Zealand representative teams, so we believe he is ready for the step up.”

Parker is part of a loose forward selection which also features Peter Lakai and Sititi, who have recovered from injury in time for the Rugby Championship.

There is still a doubt around Luke Jacobson, though, which means lock Josh Lord is one of six players added as injury cover.

Of the other five, three are uncapped with Tevita Mafileo (Tyrel Lomax), Kyle Preston (Cam Roigard/Noah Hotham) and Leroy Carter (Caleb Clarke) training with the squad.

The experienced George Bower and Finlay Christie, who are covering for Williams and the scrum-half position respectively, are also in the mix.

“While we are clearly disappointed for our men who are currently recovering from injuries, that has also created opportunities for a number of deserving players, including the uncapped Tevita Mafileo, Kyle Preston and Leroy Carter,” Robertson said.

“These players have earned the opportunity through consistent performance, and we know that they will take this chance. We are excited about what they will bring to the squad.”

Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Asafo Aumua also remain unavailable and seem likely to miss the entire Rugby Championship with injuries hitting the All Blacks.

However, Robertson will be particularly delighted to see Lakai and Sititi back, which means there is no place for Christian Lio-Willie, who is the big omission after starting the first two Tests against France.

“It is also fantastic to have Tamaiti Williams and Wallace Sititi returning from their injuries, as well as welcoming Peter Lakai, Finlay Christie and Josh Lord back into the group.

“We have some massively exciting and challenging games ahead of us and we are looking forward to reassembling and getting to work, starting with two Tests against a very strong Los Pumas side.”
