NEWBURY

Race 3 – MAGIC DREAM 33/10

Charlie Appleby has started the season strongly and his Shamardal filly MAGIC DREAM could be sharp enough to make a winning debut in the Dreweatts Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

There are plenty of sizeable dangers including Beeley who looked sure to make a better three-year-old when denied a nose debuting on heavy ground at Nottingham in October.

Lasting Love could have a major say in proceedings having shaped as though an increase in trip would suit when third racing when resuming over 7f at Doncaster last year.

Beatrice Shilling also needs to be included attempting this wide-open fillies maiden.

Race 4 – MR HAMPSTEAD 2/1

MR HAMPSTEAD improved finishing runner-up to a well-bred newcomer debuting at Newcastle.

The Roger Varian-trained Epsom Derby entrant is clearly held in high regard and has every chance in the Darley Novice Stakes.

Representing trainer Charlie Appleby debut winner Arabian Tribe carries a penalty for his Wolverhampton success in December.

Sam Hawkens must enter calculations based on a promising initial outing second tackling soft ground at Goodwood last season.

Sole filly Warda Jamila won a one mile Leicester maiden in October and cannot be discounted.

Race 5 – SPARTAN ARMY 5/1

SPARTAN ARMY will look to carry his all-weather form onto turf in the Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd Silver Bar Handicap over an extended two miles at Newbury.

The five-year-old won his first three races after switching to the Flat from hurdles before finishing third last time out in the BetUK All-Weather Championships Marathon Handicap at Newcastle.

He is still fairly handicapped on a mark of 96 and his two wins over hurdles both came with cut in the ground.

Race 6 – DASHING DARCEY 9/4

DASHING DARCEY goes in search of a delayed hat-trick in the Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Handicap.

Following a disappointing debut at Wolverhampton that saw him pulled up, he immediately put a line through that when a neck second at Newcastle and then landed a pair of mile races at Lingfield in December.

Switching to handicap company for the first time, the three-year-old can make it a winning debut on turf.
