BATH
Race 3 No2 DARKENED EDGE
Trainer: Christopher Mason – Jockey: Ryan Kavanagh
Fast ground is the key to DARKENED EDGE who has her tail up following a win in classified company at Chepstow. Her figures at this course read 013234 which adds weight to the argument she will be right there in the shake-up for a trainer who is adept with his sprinters.
Race 4 No4 CAMPEONA (Nap)
Traner: Sir Mark Prescott – Jockey: Luke Morris
Plenty of cash went west when CAMPEONA was beaten on her first run on grass here at the beginning of the month. The Study Of Man filly was worried out of it by Barack Warrior but will be more suited by this longer mile and threequarters. She can shown that those lost investments were merely lent.
Race 6 No2 MY AMBITION (Each Way)
Traner: Denis Coakley – Jockey: George Bass
MY AMBITION is a three times winner here and regularly troubles the judge on his visits. He’s yet to win in four attempts on the AW and turf this year, but has returned to a mark off which he can be competitive.
CATTERICK BRIDGE
Race 4 No3 THE GOOD BISCUIT
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: Joanna Mason
Ruth Carr fields a couple of stalwarts at this meeting who were both sourced from the Jack Channon stable. THE GOOD BISCUIT is first up for his trainer and enjoys a plum draw for the 1200 metres contest run round a left handed bend. This prolific winner has habitually suffered from breathing issues, but gives the impression he’s ready to win again, and it was over C/D that he carded his latest success.
Race 5 No4 WOODSTOCK (Nap)
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: Joanna Mason
I think WOODSTOCK probably has the best winning chance on this card especially as Carr adds a first time visor. The Nap ran better than his placing suggests when out of the money at Thirsk when he didn’t appear keen to go for a gap along the far rail and had to be switched. He’s been given a refreshing subsequent break, and can reclaim the losses that followed him out of that defeat.
YARMOUTH
Race 3 No4 HORNDEAN (Nap)
Trainer: Adam Kirby – Jockey: Pat Cosgrave
On the trickiest card for punting HORNDEAN could be a name to conjure with. The son of Hello Youmzain is a speedily bred individual which is reassuring on this drop back to 1000 metres. He caught the eye when in the money on his introduction over 1200, and should be more streetwise now.
UTTOXETER
Race 4 No5 IP UP
Trainer: Jedd O’Keeffe- Jockey: Sean Quinlan
In a tricky affair it could pay to support the only mare in the field, IP UP. What I like about the eight-year-old is that she has the best form if you dig deep enough, whilst a recent overdue success at Market Rasen will have boosted her confidence level.
Race 5 No2 PEP TALKING (Nap)
Trainer: Billy Aprahamian- Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
PEP TALKING is a rare breed that can operate throughout the National Hunt calendar both in the winter and in the summer season. The bold front runner is a credit to his connections, and while failing to hold a candle to a runaway scorer at Southwell is back in a race he can dominate.
LINGFIELD PARK
Race 2 No3 BRUNHILDE (Nap)
Trainer: George Boughey – Jockey: Billy Loughnane
Night Of Thunder filly BRUNHILDE holds the cards in this maiden for future stayers. Having made podium finishes when attracting support on both turf starts this season her trainer not only adds a pair of cheek pieces but also engages title contender Loughnane for the mount.
Race 5 No2 GREAT CHIEFTAIN
Trainer: Oliver Cole – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark
The Cole stable keeps knocking in winners which have tended to go under the radar but GREAT CHIEFTAIN is a more high profile handicapper who having been campaigned in Dubai through the winter now takes a class drop, after looking a tad out of his depth in a Class2 at the Newmarket Craven meeting.
Race 6 No4 SHINING GUEST
Trainer: George Margarson – Jockey: Saffie Osborne
Some of Margarson’s handicappers have disappointed but I’m sticking with SHINING GUEST to raise her game in a sprint that has cut up. The Starman filly is carded to start the outsider of four, but that’s probably misleading.
