SALISBURY
Race 2 No1 SOLDIER OF THE SEA
Trainer: William Knight – Jockey: Taylor Fisher
From the stable that won this race 12 months ago, SOLDIER OF THE SEA looks to hold the cards. The son of rookie sire Blackbeard attracted plenty of support on his Ffos Las introduction, and in spite of a tardy start stayed on well to get the better of a sustained duel with This Moment. Penalties always make it tough for winners taking on maidens but this admirable prospect can remain unbeaten.
Race 3 No7 TOPAZ
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Billy Loughnane
Channon saw a number of his team beaten in close photos last week and it will be true justice if TOPAZ opens her account after her good run in defeat at Newbury. That followed a run in Pattern company at Ascot making the overall quality of her form superior to that of BLUE FLIGHT, who has to give her 7lbs.
Race 4 No2 BLUE PRINCE
Trainer: David Evans – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
BLUE PRINCE landed some good bets over 1400 metres here last month before a respectable run at Kempton where in customary fashion he was doing all his best work at the finish. Rossa Ryan knows how to get the best out of the Blue Point gelding who shouldn’t mind the step up to a mile.
Race 6 No3 MOUNTBATTEN (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott – Jockey: Luke Morris
While still having questions to answer, MOUNTBATTEN is strongly fancied to bounce back from his heavy defeat at Yarmouth. The Japan colt was in trouble some way out after trying to make all, but it was his first ever run on turf, and he’s probably learned plenty from it. His stable excels with horses on this ilk in the mid summer.
NOTTINGHAM
Race 4 No6 TAKEITORLEAVEIT
Trainer: Jonny Portman – Jockey, Rob Hornby
TAKEITORLEAVEIT needs to break a frustrating run of seconditis but in receipt of weight from the field is in a position to achieve it. The dual Bath scorer can make it a win on his first visit to Colwick Park.
Race 5 No4 PORTH EILIAN
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez
In a very tight knit fillies’ handicap PORTH EILIAN can make it a third triumph in her last four starts. The daughter of Palace Pier has the ability to travel and quicken, as she demonstrated at Beverley last time. She gets this 1600 metres trip well, and represents an in form stable.
Race 7 No4 VELVET GOLDMINE (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Tom Marquand
Starman filly VELVET GOLDMINE was caught on the post after starting a hot favourite for a Bath restricted novice and is now hooded for this first run in a handicap. She’s the least experienced member of the five-strong party and has the most scope for progression.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 4 No8 PENNINE WAY (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: George Bass
Aclaim filly PENNINE WAY has been a slow burner but could improve for a switch onto the all weather. She underwhelmed when starting third favourite in Black Endeavour’s race at Doncaster last month but might have learned from that.
Race 7 No10 AUNTIE JO (Each Way)
Trainer: Katie Scott – Jockey: S D Bowen
AUNTIE JO is a dual scorer on sand who is yet to win on grass, meaning her third at Musselburgh on only a second outing for her trainer was a step in the right direction. She held every chance throughout that 1000 metres dash and can step up on it.
