The four-time world champion has continued to keep an eye on Kubica’s career since the Pole moved into endurance racing, regularly following championships outside F1.
Verstappen was particularly impressed when Kubica secured overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025.
Driving the #83 AF Corse Ferrari Hypercar alongside Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson, Kubica became the first Polish driver to stand on the top step of the overall Le Mans podium, 14 years after his devastating accident.
The achievement represented a major milestone in Kubica’s career and further demonstrated his successful return to top-level motorsport.
Verstappen, who regularly watches other racing series when he is not competing in F1, has been able to follow Kubica’s progress closely. His interest extends to the GT World Challenge Europe, where his own GT3 outfit competes.
“It’s special. Robert was a fantastic driver, and of course he still is,” said Verstappen.
“He had an enormous amount of talent. If you ask anyone here in the paddock, or people who used to race against him, I think everyone will say he was destined to achieve much more in Formula 1. Unfortunately, then that accident happened.
“Seeing him race in hypercars now is fantastic. I still follow the WEC a lot and watch his races and how he’s doing. Winning Le Mans is of course a dream for everyone. It was really great to see him achieve that.”
