The Frenchman has missed the last three grands prix after suffering a wrist injury during the European summer break, with Liam Lawson stepping in alongside Max Verstappen.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has maintained that Hadjar will return once he is fully fit. The 21-year-old is now undergoing a simulator assessment as the team makes its final checks on his wrist.
Hadjar is understood to be feeling less pain and believes his hand has improved, but Red Bull will wait for the outcome of the simulator session before making a final decision.
If Hadjar is cleared to race, Lawson will return to Racing Bulls alongside Arvid Lindblad. That would bring Yuki Tsunoda’s three-race spell at Red Bull to an end, although he impressed during his stint and scored a point at the Italian Grand Prix.
Tsunoda would then resume his role as Red Bull’s third and reserve driver.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes place at the Baku City Circuit from September 24-26, with the main race scheduled for Saturday rather than the usual Sunday slot.
