PREVIEW: RWC warm-ups – Scotland v Georgia

We have a really intriguing game at Murrayfield this Saturday with Eastern European heavyweights Georgia taking on a Scottish outfit that has impressed at times during the July/August World Cup warm-ups window.

This game should shed some light onto how the Georgians will fare at the rugby World Cup and will well be worth a watch as they could be a real money making side for punter's during the global showpiece.

Scotland 1/20 | Draw 33/1 | Georgia 17/2

Scotland will be looking for a solid send-off performance this Saturday but may find the going tough against an ever improving Georgian side, who will be eager to show they can mix it with Europe’s big guns.

The hosts have enjoyed a great lead-in to the World Cup beating Italy by 12 and 13 points in their two Tests against the Azzurri and then beating an understrength French outfit 25-21 at Murrayfield. They were unable to repeat the doss against a stronger French side the week following but gave a decent account of themselves going down 30-27 in France.

Georgia has also enjoyed a good run-in to RWC 2023 as they beat Romania 56-6 and the United States 22-7 with a load of fringe players playing in the Test against the States.

I really do fancy Georgia to give the hosts a real run for their money. The Eastern Europeans will look to target the Scottish tight five, which has been found wanting at times. If the visitors can contain Scotland’s dangerous backline by cutting ball off at source, then they shouldn’t have too difficult a time keeping it within what is a rather big handicap.

Verdict: Georgia on the plus.
