TAUNTON
Race 1 No1 JURANCON (Nap)
Trainer: David Pipe – Jockey: Jack Tudor
JURANCON is the best horse in this interesting opener. He’s carrying a double penalty for his successes at Chepstow and Newbury, but he easily brushed aside a good yardstick in Big Ginge on his latest start when equipped with a tongue tie, and should derive benefit from a move up to two and a half miles on this easy track.
Race 2 No3 THE WIDDOW MAKER (Each Way)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Harry Kimber
It’s more than 700 days since THE WIDDOW MAKER was last week on the track when a first wind operation hadn’t worked. He’s returning after a second bout of surgery to improve his breathing, and also running over hurdles for the first time in three years. While he comes with risks attached, he would be a player if recapturing his best hurdling form on a course where he’s twice been successful.
Race 5 No3 SIAM PARK (Each Way)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
Almost a pea out of the same pod and from the same stable is SIAM PARK, who has never managed to show on the racecourse what he does at home. He did however put in a slightly more encouraging run at Wincanton last time, and in a race where the hot favourite could be worth opposing he’s worth chancing.
MARKET RASEN
Race 4 No1 VOIX DE BOCELLI (Nap)
Trainer: Henrietta Knight – Jockey: Brian Hughes
VOIX DE BOCELLI jumped beautifully only to get run out of it in the closing stages of his latest start at Hereford. Similar enterprising tactics can pay dividends for the joint top weight, who finds himself with an even better opportunity to open his account under Rules.
Race 6 No3 PEEJAYBEE (Each Way)
Trainer: Peter Bowen – Jockey: James Bowen
Figures of 413242 are testament to the reliability of PEEJAYBEE who defends a two from five record at this course. He took out a bumper and a maiden hurdle on his first two career starts back in 2021, and though beaten in back-to-back chase visits in 2023 and latterly in a close finish with Eyed last month, looks like he’s on the cusp of a return to the winners’ circle.
Race 7 No2 BABY THYME
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Tom Cannon
Point and bumper winner Lady Kluck has to carry a penalty and that could make life difficult for her against the well touted newcomer BABY THYME. The latter is by No Risk At All and represents a trainer with a good record with his runners in this division. If she runs as well as she’s been working, she should get into the shake-up.
NEWCASTLE
Race 3 No2 STREAK LIGHTNING
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: Paul Mulrennan
STREAK LIGHTNING is running for the tenth successive time at Gosforth Park. Since her success in a Class6 he’s regularly troubled the judge without quite enjoy8ng the rub of the green. It’s interesting that Mulrennan is aboard for the first time, and it might make a difference.
Race 4 No5 TOMORROW DAY
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Jack Doughty
TOMORROW DAY boasts a very impressive record on the all-weather of having won five of his last nine races on sand, and all of them at this track. The Adaay gelding is a credit to his trainer, and has another good chance to add to his laurels
Race 5 No4 ORANGESANDLEMONS (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: Saffie Osborne
Maydon filly ORANGESANDLEMONS has been turned over as favourite on her last two starts but can tonight show her true prowess and recover those losses. She will enjoy stretching out to this slightly longer distance, and is strongly fancied to take care of business.
Race 7 No4 MONSIEUR FANTAISIE
Trainer: Peter Niven – Jockey: Joanna Mason
Make Believe gelding MONSIEUR FANTASIE had his wings clipped by Elettaria on a recent visit here but enjoys a swing in the weights for that paper thin margin of defeat and can turn the tables. The pair should again finish in the money, with Concert Boy another to include in all permutations.
