23/05/2022 – Monday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Monday’s British meetings at Leicester, Wolverhampton, Ludlow, Huntingdon and Windsor on 23/05/2022.

LEICESTER – 23/05/2022

Race 2 No9 METAL MERCHANT (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Tom Marquand

Make Believe colt METAL MERCHANT failed to menace on debut in a warm maiden at Newbury, getting caught out when the pace quickened and finishing down the field. He is in fact a lot better than the run implies, and with a top jockey in the plate can raise his game and trouble the judge.

Race 5 No7 SHOCKWAVES
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: David Probert

Sea The Moon colt SHOCKWAVES finished in the money behind AWAAL at Lingfield and that form was upheld when the winner ran well on a first handicap assignment. The grey has benefitted from that pleasing effort, and can give paper favourite Knight Of Thunder plenty to think about.

WOLVERHAMPTON – 23/05/2022

Race 1 No6 EMILY POST
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: James Doyle

From a stable amongst the winners, EMILY POST has more scope for improvement than many of her foes in this fillies only handicap. She showed ability on each start in obtaining a mark, especially when narrowly beaten on return to action at Redcar.

Race 7 No3 SIR MIN
Trainer: Charlie Fellowes – Jockey: Hollie Doyle

Value seekers should look to SIR MIN to take home a cheque in the nightcap. The Caravaggio gelding progressed in first time cheek pieces to make the frame at Thirsk, and though that wasn’t the hottest race run there this year he should now step up, as he will need to do.

LUDLOW – 23/05/2022

Race 2 No8 LINDWALL
Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr – Jockey: Peter Kavanagh

The joker in this pack is LINDWALL, a former three race scorer for Sir Mark Prescott who is fit from a fine run in defeat on the Flat. Last season he underwhelmed in all three hurdling starts but was impaired by a wind problem that the Catterick run suggests has been sorted out.

Race 5 No3 FINEST VIEW (Nap)
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Tom Cannon

FINEST VIEW should have much trouble completing a hat-trick on this first run in a handicap. She’s delivered with real authority in novice hurdles at Ludlow and Kempton, and could turn into a real moneyspinner for her connections through the summer.

Race 7 No1 KILBARRY LEADER
Trainer: Oliver Greenall – Jockey: Fergus Gregory

Former Irish point winner KILBARRY LEADER looked a useful prospect when taking out a Southwell bumper last month for which she can defy a penalty at the main expense of Call Me Tara.

HUNTINGDON – 23/05/2022

Race 5 No1 ONE FOR BILLY
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Harry Skelton

ONE FOR BILLY gained experience of this course when placing behind Grisbi De Berce after winning on a switch to fences at Warwick. He’s in good form for this attempt to defy a welter burden, and should oblige.

Race 6 No2 NYE BEVAN (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Thomas Bellamy

NYE BEVAN did us a good turn when scoring as a 16-1 roughie at Warwick where he made a decisive move at the end of the back straight. He’s chalked up a very good win and place record since his attention was turned to hurdling, and has a great chance to follow up off his revised mark.

WINDSOR – 23/05/2022

Race 1 No7 WHISTLEDOWN
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

Having picked up a cheque in each of her three outings this year, WHISTLEDOWN can now gain a deserved first success. The hooded filly gets a new rider that is good value for his 5lb claim, and who got a good tune out of her when he was on her back last summer.

Race 5 No9 OH IT’S SAUCEPOT
Trainer: Chris Wall – Jockey: Jack Mitchell

OH IT’S SAUCEPOT made an eye taking return to the fray when third at Yarmouth. Easy to back on that occasion, her rider was sympathetic with her in the closing stages and that can now be rewarding in a first success in two and a half years.

Race 6 No10 UNCLE DICK
Trainer: Eve Johnson Houghton – Jockey: George Downing

UNCLE DICK looked to be running into form when third to Pledge Of Honour at Nottingham. That second outing of the campaign should have made him cherry ripe for another big earning run under the same jockey.
