14/06/2022 – Tuesday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil provides us with his best bets and tips for Tuesday’s race meeting at Royal Ascot on 14/06/2022.

Royal Ascot Best Bets 14/06/2022

Race 1 QUEEN ANNE STAKES (Group 1) – 14/06/2022
No2 BAAEED
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Jim Crowley

The towering presence of BAAEED cannot be better placed than in the first race of the meeting. In the same vein as Frankel, who achieved a highest ever rating of 147 when landing this contest, connections of last month’s Lockinge Stakes winner are keen to preserve his unbeaten record, though in truth they will not lose any sleep when assessing the strength of the opposition. REAL WORLD and CHINDIT followed the favourite home at Newbury, and may well do the same again.

Prediction: 1st BAAAEED, 2nd Real World, 3rd Chindit

Race 2 COVENTRY STAKES (Group 2) – 14/06/2022
No13 ROYAL SCOTSMAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Paul Cole – Jockey: Jim Crowley

From stall 1 ROYAL SCOTSMAN’s options are limited, but the colt displayed such a high cruising speed when scoring at Goodwood that his pilot can follow the speed set to be injected by BRADSELL, a runaway winner on his only outing at York. Those heading the market, BLACKBEARD and PERSIAN FORCE, are boxed wide, and with no evidence of draw bias at this stage of the meeting we are in the lap of the gods as to which side will be favoured. AGE OF KINGS is another with fewer outside him than inside, and with Blackbeard gives Aidan O’Brien a strong hand.

Prediction: 1st ROYAL SCOTSMAN, 2nd Persian Force, 3rd Age Of Kings

Race 3 KING’S STAND STAKES (Group 1) – 14/06/2022
No16 TWILIGHT CALLS
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Ryan Moore

Connections of Australian ace NATURE STRIP are hoping to shadow GOLDEN PAL and pounce on that American speedster in the final 200 metres. The pair are champions in their own domains, but this is the first sprinter from Down Under to come here for several years, while Golden Pal’s visits to our shores have so far me with defeat. Should the pair lock horns and engage in a speed duel then it will be all to the good of TWILIGHT CALLS, who is just the right type to benefit from a collapsing pace. The Temple Stakes second will certainly be one of the last horses to come off the bridle, has a strong preference for the fast ground he will encounter on one of the hottest days of the year, and in Ryan Moore has the perfect man to get the job done.

Prediction: 1st TWILIGHT CALLS, 2nd Nature Strip, 3rd Golden Pal

Race 4 St JAMES’S PALACE STAKES – 14/06/2022
No11 MY PROSPERO (Each Way)
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Tom Marquand

A second odds-on shot enters the fray via 2,000 Guineas hero COROEBUS who in blowing away his vaunted stablemate Native Trail plundered what is looking more and more like an above average Classic. From a good draw the Dubawi colt is rock solid, but one that can shake him up and earn in one form or another is MY PROSPERO. The son of Iffraaj has impressed on both starts this year at Newbury and Sandown and is still something of an unknown quantity, a comment that can also be applied to his barn mate MALJOOM, who in rattling off a rapid fire hat-trick through the spring has proved himself a Group 2 winner in Germany. MIGHTY ULYSEES will also have supporters for the Gosden/Dettori combo, but will have to improve in leaps and bounds to win, as he was beaten in handicap company last time and can’t beat Coroebus on a line through Nahanni.

Prediction: 1st MY PROSPERO, 2nd Coroebus, 3rd Maljoom

Race 5 ASCOT HANDICAP STAKES – 14/06/2022
No8 PIED PIPER (Nap)
Trainer: Gordon Elliott – Jockey: Jamie Spencer

PIED PIPER has taken up the longer option of two races that were at his disposal on the first day card. According to Elliott and Jockey Spencer it’s the logical route to take for a horse that dead-heated before being demoted in a Grade1 hurdle at Aintree. The New Approach gelding hasn’t really put a foot wrong since being purchased out of the Gosden stable and on his first run on the Flat since last autumn there’s abundant confidence that he can deliver. He’s a strong travelling hold up performer, and Spencer can be a dab hand with that type of horse. The combination will seek to swoop late and can grab rivals such as Chester Cup second COLTRANE and the unexposed pair BRING ON THE NIGHT and ARCADIAN SUNRISE late in the game.

Prediction: 1st PIED PIPER, 2nd Bring On The Night, 3rd Arcadian Sunrise

Race 6 WOLFERTON STAKES – 14/06/2022
No15 WEST END CHARMER
Trainer: Mark Johnston – Jockey: Joe Fanning

Nobody would be surprised were Mark Johnston to pull one out of the fire, and the Middleham trainer saddles a horse that could have more to offer in WEST END CHARMER in this viciously competitive Listed race. West End Charmer had been off the track a long time when reappearing at Goodwood where he chased home one of today’s rivals MAJESTIC DAWN. He had a good blow afterwards, and has been made fitter.

CERTAIN LAD ran a cracker on his return to action in Chester’s Huxley Stakes and appeals as an overpriced roughie that can earn. TASMAN BAY brings good form to the table, having been placed in his last three outings in Group company. He chased home Alenquer in the King Edward VII Stakes and Baaeed in the Sussex Stakes, and if running close to that standard and ready after ten months off has to be respected.

Prediction: 1st WEST END CHARMER, 2nd Tasman Bay, 3rd Certain Lad, 4th Majestic Bay

Race 7 COPPER HORSE HANDICAP – 14/06/2022
No3 STOWELL
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

All being well you will be in front at this late stage of proceedings, but if for any reason you’re not STOWELL is an alluring bet to jump out of jail with. The Zoffany colt represents the trainer that saddled last year’s winner, and was 12 months ago a most unlucky loser in the Queen’s Vase when circumstances dictated that he covered a lot more ground than the two horses who beat him. This season he’s run well to trouble the judge in a Group 3 and a Listed race, and brings a big element of class to the table against market leader CLEVELAND.

The latter cast aside his relative inexperience to get the job done in the Chester Cup and could turn out to be a progressive stayer for Coolmore. NOT SO SLEEPY is another to consider for a trainer, Hughie Morrison, who always has his horses at their peaks for this meeting. ALOUNAK underwhelmed last time, but is capable of raising his game while lightly-raced OKITA SOUSHI can also get involved and is well with a market check.
