Amid mounting debate over Formula 1’s new technical landscape, Max Verstappen remains “fully committed” to Red Bull Racing.
The reassurance comes as the sport prepares to introduce revised energy management rules at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix.
The FIA, alongside teams and manufacturers, has spent April refining systems after early-season races were dominated by energy harvesting strategies.
Drivers were often forced into unusual styles prioritising battery charging over outright racing, leading to safety concerns such as high closing speeds and algorithm-driven overtakes.
Adjustments – described as “evolutionary” – aim to restore more natural racing conditions, including refined deployment and harvesting limits.
Toto Wolff supported only minimal intervention, favouring precision changes as Mercedes continues its dominant start, with George Russell and Kimi Antonelli winning all three races.
Verstappen’s criticism has largely focused on battery influence, though Mekies insists his internal approach is constructive.
“The Max we see is a fully committed Max,” the Red Bull team boss told Sky Sports.
“He wants a fast car, and he’s helping the team getting a fast car. He’s bringing all his energy to that.
“He’s passionate about the sport. He raised his voice when he felt things needed to be done.
“We have a step forward for the regs in coming for Miami. He is embracing that. Will it be enough?
“We have time to see together if it’s going to be enough or not.”
“We need to give him a car he can consistently push with,” he added.
“Then after it doesn’t mean that it will be fast enough for pole positions, but it means he can start to bring his Max effect, and we can start to bolt development onto that car.”
