Instead, Ferrari struggled to match the pace of its rivals across the event.

Lewis Hamilton managed only sixth place in the race, while teammate Charles Leclerc crossed the line eighth before remaining classified in the same position following a post-race penalty.

The disappointing performance highlighted the gap Ferrari still faces to the leading teams despite the extensive development work brought to Miami.

McLaren and Red Bull consistently outperformed the Scuderia throughout the weekend, raising further questions about Ferrari’s competitiveness.

“It’s slightly soul-destroying because it starts from a technical point of view,” Smedley told the High Performance Podcast.

“It starts essentially this negative loop that you’ve then got to [dissect]. What did you bring? What’s working? What’s not working?

“If it’s not correlating, as in the wind tunnel or your simulation tools are not matching what’s on track, you’ve then got to do this whole reverse engineering process where you go back to the tunnel, and that holds up all of the development in the tunnel that you should be doing.”
