NEWTON ABBOT

Race 1 – SONGO 6/5

SONGO won as an odds-on favourite should on his return to hurdles here last month and a reproduction of that effort may see Milton Harris’ gelding add another course and distance victory to his tally.

This is the furthest Donnie Azoff has gone, but he can’t be discounted now back from the larger obstacles and is feared most.

Spitalfield’s jumping let him down at Fontwell but still completes the shortlist.

Race 3 – ZABEEL CHAMPION 10/3

ZABEEL CHAMPION justified strong support when defying a 192-day absence at Perth and should take some stopping off only 3lb higher.

Nibras Gold had to settle for third when sent off at odds-on at Worcester, although first-time cheekpieces might eke some improvement out of David Pipe’s five-year-old and it’s too soon to be writing him off.

Sisterandbrother has been raised 4lb after going down by just a neck at Market Rasen, but he can’t be discounted either.

Race 5 – MERRY BERRY 13/2

Tommie Beau reverts to timber following two comfortable victories over fences and commands attention, but MERRY BERRY is fancied to come on from her return to action at Worcester last month and gets the vote.

She is now rated just 2lb above her last winning mark and seems to go well for Tom Broughton, who is back in the saddle.

Dicey Rielly was successful at Worcester when sent chasing for her latest outing and can give the selection plenty to think about.

Race 6 – DONTMESSWITHME 3/1

A case can be made for several of these, but DONTMESSWITHME kept on to fill the runner-up spot over course and distance on her racecourse bow and is taken to build on that.

Only losing out to a more experienced rival on that occasion, the daughter of Court Cave can get the better of Alright Dai, who has joined the Neil Mulholland team since occupying the runner-up spot at Warwick in February.

The unraced Full Monty is another to bear in mind.

AYR

Race 1 -RED ZONE HERO 4/9

RED ZONE HERO rattled the crossbar at Yarmouth last time and looks well placed to get off the mark in the opening EBF Maiden Stakes.

There was plenty of encouragement to be taken from the Starspangledbanner colt’s fifth placed finish on his introduction at Windsor and he took a step forward when beaten just three-quarters of a length into second place next time.

Turning out just under a fortnight later, he can make it third time lucky in Scotland.

Race 2 – SEE MY BABY JIVE 15/8

SEE MY BABY JIVE has won his last three, all over the over course and distance, and is hard to oppose in the Staycations At Western House Hotel Handicap.

Zegos Surprise competes off a 4lb lower figure than for her recent runner-up effort at Ripon and could give the selection most to think about.

The unexposed Bloomin Robbery should appreciate this return to 6f and makes each-way appeal.

Race 3 – NOVAK 11/8

Course form can also come to the fore when NOVAK lines up in the Book Scottish Sun Ladies Night Handicap.

Iain Jardine’s gelding was a winner over course and distance off a mark 10lb lower three starts ago, but has been unstoppable since, dropping back to six furlongs to add victories at both Hamilton and back here late last month.

He was again going away at the finish in his most recent outing which suggests the handicapper is yet to fully get him in his grasp and he has to rate as the one to beat.

Race 6 – BONITO CAVALO 5/2

BONIITO CAVALO may have let down favourite-backers more than once this year but he has picked up his share of minor money, including at Musselburgh most recently.

His day will surely come soon, but he might have to wait a little longer because Ayr regular Sixcor was just denied in a blanket finish at Musselburgh last week and can compete off 1lb lower.

Ski Angel and Genevieve are out of the handicap, but open to improvement.

LINGFIELD

Race 1 – BAILER CONTIGO 15/8

BAILER CONTIGO has a 6lb penalty to shoulder after winning comfortably at Bath last time out and, if this race doesn’t come too soon, he may well be good enough to follow up.

Senseofentitlement is a big danger after running on well over shorter to score at Wolverhampton, though he is yet to win on turf.

Storm Valley is also of interest and can go well if she improves for her Epsom fourth.

Race 3 – LITTLE HUG 9/2

LITTLE HUG may need nothing more than a gentle squeeze to open her account at Lingfield following an encouraging run last month.

Roger Varian’s three-year-old showed little in two starts last term, but has been much improved since returning a year older and wiser.

She was a keeping on fifth beaten just over two lengths on her return at Yarmouth before returning to the seaside course to pick up a silver medal most recently.

Keenness in the early stages didn’t help the daughter of Invincible Spirit on that occasion, but she showed a good attitude to keep striving for victory at the business end and if acting a little more professional here, is a good bet to get off the mark in the Curtis Packaging: Sprint To The Print Novice Stakes.

Race 5 – BUGLE BEADS 9/2

Proud Fairy was a decisive winner over course and distance five days ago and she merits respect under a penalty, but a chance is taken on BUGLE BEADS.

The daughter of Pivotal showed clear promise across her three qualifying runs, each over six furlongs, and she can take a significant step forward now pitched into handicaps and upped in trip.

Spanish Mane appeals most of the remainder.

Race 6 – MORNING COLOURS 13/10

MORNING COLOURS did well to fill the runner-up spot here over 6f last time out, having been slowly away.

Marco Botti’s filly is able to compete off an unchanged mark and she could find further improvement over this extra furlong.

Bear To Dream continues to run well in defeat and must go on the shortlist, while market support should be noted for Perfect Focus ahead of his return from a lengthy absence.
