Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for Wednesday’s race meetings at Catterick Bridge, Lingfield Park, Southwell and Leicester on 20/07/2022.
CATTERICK BRIDGE – 20/07/2022
Race 1 No11 LOVE FIFTEEN (Each Way)
Trainer: Adrian Keatley – Jockey: Ryan Sexton
LOVE FIFTEEN offers up value from a good draw in the opener, and can give her trainer a belated birthday present by opening her account from a good draw from which she can attack and better her pleasing run at Ripon last time.
Race 7 No1 DANDYS GOLD (Nap)
Trainer: Roger Fell – Jockey: Ryan Sexton
Dandy Man mare DANDY’S GOLD gained reward for her consistency by scoring easily at Ayr and landing some good bets in the process. She’d been a bit unfortunate not to score here earlier in the season, and can show with a follow-up win under top weight that she’s progressing in the right direction.
LINGFIELD PARK – 20/07/2022
Race 4 No11 MELODY CHER
Trainer: Sir a Michael Stoute – Jockey: Cieren Fallon
Siyouni filly MELODY CHER is one of the least experienced contenders, but on handicap debut for a top stable needs close inspection. She gave Zanbaq something to think about in a Haydock novice back in May and now returns over a longer trip that should suit, with headgear added for the first time.
Race 6 No2 PARTY ISLAND (Nap)
Trainer: Denis Coakley – Jockey: George Bass
Bass has done well for this trainer as was the case when he guided PARTY ISLAND home at Lingfield last time. The combination landed some good bets, and can advertise with a follow-up triumph the chestnut’s liking for this course.
SOUTHWELL – 20/07/2022
Race 3 No4 SOCIOLOGIST
Trainer: Scott Dixon – Jockey: Jonathan Fisher
SOCIOLOGIST has done the vast majority of his all-weather racing at this venue, winning here last April and run well to a point when returned on his first start of the current campaign. In an open heat he can take home another cheque.
Race 4 No2 GLORIOUS PEACHES
Trainer: Sean Woods – Jockey: Harry Davies
Iffraaj filly GLORIOUS PEACES could have the Indian Sign on long-standing maiden Profound Alexander. The selection has shown she is not without ability in two career starts and may have more scope for progression than the paper favourite.
Race 6 No7 TWILIGHT MADNESS (Nap)
Trainer: Steve Hodgson – Jockey: William Carver
Ultra consistent TWILIGHT MADNESS has form that stands up to close scrutiny, and after three straight earning runs at Chelmsford can now ply his trade to even greater effect switched to this Tapeta surface.
LEICESTER – 20/07/2022
Race 1 No8 LARK LANE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Rob Hornby
Greenness has cost LARK LANE in many of his races, but he Sixties Icon gelding has shown in each of his last two races at Chepstow and Ffos Las that he’s not without ability, and capable of picking up a small race of this nature.
Race 3 No4 BIT OF A QUIRKE (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Walford – Jockey: Hollie Doyle
BIT OF A QUIRKE has dropped to a mark 3lb lower than when winning at this track last year, and showed with an eye taking recent effort at Beverley that he’s on the cusp of a return to winning ways. He’s getting a good amount of weight from two of his three foes in a contest that’s cut up in his favour.
Race 5 No1 MATTIE TOO
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan
MATTIE TOO has thrived for the fitting of cheek pieces on his last two outings, following an earning run at Hamilton by gamely delivering at Ripon. He remains at his optimum trip, and should prove hard to beat.
Race 6 No5 KINRARRA (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Hollie Doyle
Respect is given to the unexposed Snap Ambush, but one that might be better than she’s shown on two handicap runs is KINRARRA. Those efforts happened at Nottingham, but she’s now operating on a straight track which could prove more suitable and see an improved run, as she went well in her winding up work for this.
SANDOWN PARK – 20/07/2022
Race 2 No4 MISS ATTITUDE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Tom Marquand
Cityscape filly MISS ATTITUDE has spoiled her chance in two outings be running freely. With today’s jockey on board she burned herself out in the first quarter mile at Newbury last time, and had nothing left at the business end. If she consents to settle, she’s more than capable of striking a blow, and is attractively priced as a value option to those heading the market.
Race 6 No2 SOVEREIGN DUKE (Nap)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Rhys Clutterbuck
SOVEREIGN DUKE has been around the block a time or two, but is of interest in this open finale especially if there’s money for him. In a second spell with his trainer, he might have needed his first run back from a long break, and can progress to trouble warm favourite Happy under a rider who is good value for his claim.
