Sunday Horse Racing Preview- The Curragh 17/07/2022
After top-class racing on Saturday, we look ahead to what promised to be another top-class day of racing.
Curragh 17/07/2022 – 14:10 – Romanised Minstrel Stakes | Group 2 7f
To me, this looks like an ideal opportunity for ORDER OF AUSTRALIA to get back to winning ways.
A former Group 1 winner and a horse who has always shown form at the top level takes a step back in class today where I expect him to take full advantage of it as he did when winning this exact race.
Last season he was finishing placed behind Palace Pier and 1 ¼ lengths behind the mighty Baaeed.
Came back this season with another solid 3rd behind Baaeed, and with his tendency to come on from his first run of the season and I believe it will be a repeat win for the son of Australia.
Pearls Galore will be the main danger, but I think she needs to step forward again to win.
Curragh 17/07/2022 – 15:55 – Kilboy Estate Stakes | Group 2 1m1f
A few with a chance here, Purplepay comes here on the back of a decent 5th in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes and comes here with a massive chance. Potapova would have a chance if you forgive her last run on the all-weather at Newcastle.
But the one I think will be a decent price is the Peter Tomey trained RUMBLES OF THUNDER.
Went off 11/4 for the Group 3 International Stakes at this track but didn’t get the best run in the race and on that day, it paid to be well up with the pace as when Ryan Moore gave Aikhal a top-class ride from the front.
Yes, she will need to step up again on that run, but he win the time before and suggested that we are yet to see the best of this filly.
Chantilly 17/ 07/2022 – 13:33 – Prix Robert Papin | Group 2 6f
Away from the Curragh Aiden O’Brien has sent two over to France for the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin.
The Antarctic needs to leave his last two runs behind to win here, but the enigma that is BLACKBEARD should well be up to winning this. He acted up as usual at the Curragh last time up where it more than likely cost him his chances of winning but was only beat an SHD by promising Shartash.
His antics before entering the stalls seem to be his party trick, but if he keeps it to a minimum here then the son of No Nay Never should take some stopping here under Aiden’s go-to jockey in France, Iortiz Mendizabal.
