2022 Newmarket July Festival Tips – Andrew Halligan

17/07/2022

Newmarket July Festival Day Two

We look ahead to day two of the Newmarket July Festival and let’s keep the good times rolling.

Newmarket July Festival : Newmarket 14:25 – Duchess of Cambridge | 6f Group 2

A very competitive race on paper with some very exciting fillies on show with Royal Ascot form coming to the fore.

Maylandsea is currently 7/4 favourite on the back of his 1 ¾l second to Dramatised in the Queen Mary Stakes, where another fancied runner in Lezoo comes in here unbeaten but will need to step up on her win at Newmarket.

That leads me to my selection of MAWJ.

Made a massive impression when winning on debut at Newmarket and backed that up with an improved performance in the Albany Stakes where she ran Meditate to 1 ¾ lengths.

To me, this is the standout form in the field and an improvement once again will see her difficult to beat.

Newmarket July Festival: Newmarket 1:50 – bet365 Stakes | 1m2f Handicap

When looking into day two of the Newmarket festival I could not believe the price and mark that NEW LONDON has acquired.

He is in here off a mark of 99 where I would have him at minimum mid to high 110.

He has two wins on the Rowley mile here where he made a taking comeback over 1 ¼m beating the promising Aldous Huxley who has since just been touched off in a Listed event by Lionel.

You can right off his last run at Chester where he was turned over at 4/11 by Changingofthegaurd who since went on to win the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

For early in the race, you could see the tight nature of Chester did not suit him, and back on a more conventional track like Newmarket’s July course, I have him as one of the best bets of the week at 3/1.

Newmarket July Festival: Honourable Mention

One who I like to run a massive race today is LORD RAPSCALLION (Newmarket 4:10).

He is in here off a mark of 87 where he has competed off marks as high as 102 just last year.

Second, on his last two starts see him showing something like his old self, and if he steps forward again he is very well in to make use of this kind of mark.
