GOODWOOD
Race 2 No4 RUNMAN
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Frankel colt RUNMAN should be hard to beat in a classified contest that’s cut up in his favour. A three times scorer from only six career outings, he should find this a calmer melting pot than that in which he faded in the closing stages of a warm Class2 at Doncaster.
Race 4 No2 LION’S PRIDE
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: William Buick
From the same stable, LION’S PRIDE should give us a good run for our money in the featured Foundation Stakes. The selection ran well to a point in the Bahrain Trophy last November and has contested a Group 3 and a Group 2 subsequently. His performance in the Jockey Club Stakes leaves much to be desired but he can prove with a good run here that it was a temporary blip.
Race 5 No13 TIKKA (Nap)
Trainer: James Fanshawe – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt
EABHA brings placed form in successive Group races to the table, but as her price is short enough there could be value in the unbeaten TIKKA to ruffle the favourite’s feathers. The selection made stylish progress when switched at the cutaway to soon lead and go well clear on her first run at Kempton. The Sealiway filly is exciting, and a bet I’m looking forward to.
REDCAR
Race 3 No7 SPEYSIDE (Nap)
Trainer: Hugo Palmer – Jockey: David Probert
Blue Point colt SPEYSIDE shaped well to trouble the judge on his Goodwood introduction before finding York’s Convivial Maiden Stakes a bridge too far. He’s worth sticking with in this notable class drop, in which he’s strongly fancied to open his account.
Race 4 No7 POINTED
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: George Bass
POINTED troubled the judge when easy to back against an odds-on winner at Kempton. As there were only seven runners it’s hard to weigh up what she achieved, but without question she will be more streetwise on the switch to turf.
Race 7 No7 SOUTH KENSINGTON
Trainer: Adam Kirby – Jockey: Mr Liam McGaffin
SOUTH KENSINGTON travelled kindly into the straight before finishing second on her second outing after a breathing operation at Lingfield. That should have primed her to post an overdue second career win in this lowly affair.
PERTH
Race 3 No4 FOLLOW CHARLIE (Nap)
Trainer: Mike Smith – Jockey: Murray Dodd
FOLLOW CHARLIE is 6lb higher than for his last win here in August but with five visits to the course in succession he knows every blade of grass. He hould give us a good run for our money as he cuts back in trip for this two mile handicap hurdle.
Race 6 No5 FOREST SPIRIT
Trainer: Mickey Bowen – Jockey: James Bowen
Waiting tactics will probably be employed on FOREST SPIRIT who after being denied in a photo at Worcester arrives for a first run here on a 5lb higher mark. It’s always tough for horses who are penalised after getting beaten, but this consistent performer can now experience a deserved change of luck.
KEMPTON PARK
Race 3 No9 SUNSHINE AND ROSES (Nap)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Rose Dawes
In the hope that female riders enjoy a bountiful night SUNSHINE AND ROSES is the first of three advices at this fixture, all ridden by women. Although this is run round almost a lap of the track it’s handy that the selection breaks from the rail, because in a couple of her races she’s had plenty to do. It was in a four runner contest that she finished second last time but it was nevertheless an encouraging effort by the daughter of Massaat.
Race 5 No7 SPACEWOMAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Nicola Currie
Several take the eye in this good betting race. Recent scorer ICONIC DAWN and the ultra consistent METHGAL have to go well and are worth combining for exacta purposes with main selection SPACEWOMAN. The Space Blues filly has been selectively campaigned this year and put in a couple of good efforts in defeat since scoring at Newmarket. She’s one that responds to the female touch and has forged a good understanding with her pilot.
Race 9 No9 THE BAY WARRIOR (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Rose Dawes
Exactly a year since his previous win at this course THE BAY WARRIOR is poised for a big run in the finale. He returned from a mid season break to chase home a well backed winner at Lingfield at the start of the month and will come on for that. His rider knows and gets on with him, while he’s weighted to put his best foot forward.
