SANDOWN PARK

Race 4 No6 PAT’S CASH (Nap)
Trainer: Hugo Palmer – Jockey: Oisin Murphy

With the benefit of a run under his belt the spotlight falls on PAT’S CASH, who has shown cut in the ground holds no perils for him. He finished off that Haydock race strongly, suggesting the final hill will be an asset to him today, while he has the champ in his saddle and a tongue tie added.

Race 5 No11 GALYX (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Tom Marquand

GALYX underwhelmed on his York return in spite of attracting plenty of support. He needs riding from off the pace with a strong gallop to aim at, while any cut in the ground will also assist him. The big cut back in trip today indicates a mile and a half last time was further than he wanted to go.

Race 6 No6 PLAN C (Each Way)
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Rossa Ryan

One that can go well at a price in this three-year-old only handicap is PLAN C. The Sioux National colt has twice troubled the judge with cut in the ground and might well have needed his first run back at the York May meeting, where he was far from disgraced. King does well with this type of individual, who has the right jockey in the irons and should earn.

CHESTER

Race 3 No2 SILVER STATE (Nap)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Rose Dawes

SILVER STATE is a small horse with a build that should lend itself to the tight turns of the Roodee. The Lucky Vega gelding, a dual scorer this season, advertised his versatility when outrunning his 20-1 odds to chase home Folk Pageant at Epsom last week. The pair came clear in that Class2 and the Nap now takes a step down into calmer waters. With his liking for easy conditions he has a great chance to go one better.

Race 4 No7 CRAZEE ICON (Each Way)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Jason Watson

Accepting that she has become expensive to follow and has a tricky outside draw to contend with, CRAZEE ICON might be worth another chance on a track where she was very unlucky not to score on handicap debut last September. She’s been a beaten favourite on her last five outings, but given the rub of the green can at last get it right and recoup those losses.

YORK

Race 1 No12 QUEST FOR FUN (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Jake Dickson

QUEST FOR FUN races off the same mark as when finishing strongly into the money on his latest starts over course and distance. He has a good record at the track that includes two successes and five frame finishes, and with a good apprentice in the irons is a very solid win and place proposition. LEADMAN finished in front of the selection here two starts back and though disappointing last time could bounce back, and is worth a saver.

Race 5 No3 RATHGAR (Nap)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: James Doyle

Hat-trick seeking RATHGAR is performing at the peak of his powers, and with good assistance from the saddle could extend his sequence. For a horse that likes to be ridden prominently he has a perfect draw, while should underfoot conditions worsen he will handle it. He has his tail up, and is the main pick, but I shall save on the much longer priced CASTLE STUART who ran well here before a lack lustre display at Carlisle which I find hard to accept at face value.

NEWTON ABBOT

Race 3 No5 BLUE SIAM
Trainer: Syd Hosie – Jockey: Jonathan Burke

Most in the field for this low grade handicap hurdle arrive out of form, but BLUE SIAM has made the podium on her last couple of starts and is lightly raced and unexposed. The Blue Point filly put in a career best on her handicap debut at Stratford and makes appeal racing off just 2lb higher.

Race 4 No5 ALMUHIT (Nap)
Trainer: Faye Bramley – Jockey: Harry Cobden

Cobden’s booking for ALMUHIT takes the eye as the seven-year-old bids to back up his smooth Fontwell success of earlier in the week from a 7lb higher mark. He was made plenty of use of that day, and if obtaining an uncontested lead round these equally tight turns he could prove hard to peg back.

Race 6 No2 AT THE OCHE
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Charlie Todd

AT THE OCHE makes a first appearance over fences following a breathing operation. He was a regular earner as a hurdler without scoring as many times as he should have, but even though this trip looks the bare minimum for him he can do better in this discipline.
