The 20-time Grand Slam champion, who retired in 2022 following his final outing at the Laver Cup, will step back onto the New York stage later this summer for a star-studded showcase during the qualifying week.
Federer will team up with Andy Roddick in a doubles exhibition featuring John McEnroe and Andre Agassi, scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“The US Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me,” Federer said in a statement. “So many unforgettable moments of my career happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means a great deal to me.”
Earlier this year, Federer also featured in a showcase match at the Australian Open alongside Lleyton Hewitt and Agassi, and also took part in a practice session with Casper Ruud.
Federer famously won the US Open five consecutive times between 2004 and 2008 – an Open Era record – and shares the overall Open Era tally of five titles with Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors.
After that dominant stretch, he reached two further finals, losing to Juan Martín del Potro in 2009 and Novak Djokovic in 2015.
His final appearance at the tournament came in 2019, when he was beaten in a five-set quarter-final by Grigor Dimitrov in what proved to be his last US Open match.
Federer missed the 2020 and 2021 editions through injury before announcing his retirement the following year, finishing his US Open career with an 86% win rate at Flushing Meadows.
