Draper has had a difficult 12 months because of injuries. Last year, he was out for six months after hurting his arm at the 2025 US Open.

The injury was caused by a bone bruise while he was serving. Earlier this year, in April, Draper was also forced to retire from his first-round match at the Barcelona Open against Tomas Martin Etcheverry because of a knee injury.

As he is still recovering, the 24-year-old has announced that he will miss the 2026 French Open. He could be fully fit again in time for the Queen’s Club Championships and Wimbledon Championships.

Tennis Commentator and Sky Sports Reporter Laura Robson shared her opinion on Andy Murray joining Draper’s coaching staff and whether this move is beneficial.

“In some way, it’s really beneficial that Andy’s in his corner, but in other ways, it’s more pressure as well.

“I don’t know which way I’m leaning towards still because there’s going to be so much attention now on that first match back, wherever it may be. That probably isn’t going to feel great, considering he’s not played a lot of tennis. It’s been a tough time with injuries for almost a year now.

“To know, going in, that you’re expected by pretty much everyone to be playing well probably adds another layer to it, but I haven’t quite decided which way I’m leaning there yet.”

Murray retired from professional tennis at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His final match was in the men’s doubles quarterfinals, where he and Dan Evans lost to the American pair of Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in straight sets, 6–2, 6–4.

Since retiring, Murray has worked as a coach for Novak Djokovic. The partnership lasted about six months before they decided to part ways in 2025.
