CHESTER
Race 1 No6 CAILIN AINE (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby- Jockey: David Allan
Easterby’s juveniles inevitably improve for a run which could augur well for roughie CAILIN AINE getting into the shake-up. The daughter of Invincible Army showed speed in spite of running green to trouble the judge on her Redcar introduction. The winner of the race is very well regarded, and my selection can improve to make it a second podium finish.
Race 2 No2 SNOW MASTER
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Off a mark of 100 SNOW MASTER requires close consideration in this race round one lap of the Roodee. He was regarded highly enough to contest the Group 2 Joel Stakes last season, and though failing to menace in that race he’s now having a first run out of a different yard, and a first in a handicap.
Race 3 No3 AMELIA EARHART (Nap)
Trainer: Aidan O’Brien- Jockey: Ryan Moore
AMELIA EARHART opened her account in a Leopardstown race O’Brien also targeted with future Oaks winner Minnie Hauk last year. The daughter of Camelot has pleased her connections through the winter and into the Spring, and with first time blinkers should appreciate the step up to a mile and a half.
Standing in her path to victory is Newbury winner I’M THE ONE a who is carded to start odds-on and should fill the flip side of the Exacta for John Gosde.
Race 4 BOODLES CHESTER VASE (Group 3)
No7 WATER TO WINE
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: James Doyle
Aidan O’Brien has a fantastic record in this Derby trial in which his BENEVENUTO CELLINI steps out with a strong formline on his CV, having finished third in the Futurity at Doncaster on his final 2025 outing. Victory for him be a twelfth in the race for Coolmore but standing in his way is a serious opponent in WATER TO WINE, whose name was barked all over the course before his Newbury debut triumph in which he came home unchallenged. The Kingman colt can take the spoils while Coolmore’s second representative PROPOSITION can also get into the shake-up.
Race 7 No1 DANCE IN THE STORM (Each Way)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
Murphy may be required to circumnavigate the field on top weight DANCE IN THE STORY, but the filly brings solid 2025 form to the table and is ready to fire on her seasonal comeback. All her racing happened at Grade 1 courses where she scored at Sandown and placed on three of her other four outings. One that should also give a good account and at the other end of the weights is PIETRO, and he’s worth saving on.
NEWTON ABBOT
Race 6 No8 MISTER BARCLAY (Nap)
Trainer: Tom Symonds – Jockey: Ned Fox
MISTER BARCLAY is an infrequent visitor to the racecourse but when last seen returned from a long absence to prevail. With a good conditional taking 3lb off his back the eight-year-old is capable of following up.
KELSO
Race 4 No3 DISCO ANNIE (Each Way)
Trainer: Rebecca Menzies – Jockey: Nathan Moscrop
DISCO ANNIE ran well at Carlisle but not so on her latest start when in the ruck at Musselburgh. She’s subsequently been operated on to correct a breathing problem, making this first subsequent run the probably time to catch her.
Race 5 No2 THORNEYLANDS (Each Way)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Danny McMenamin
THORNEYLANDS has had his problems, but there was a hint of his old ability showing through on his latest start over two and a quarter miles here. He should have benefitted from that, while the step up to two and a half is something he needs.
FONTWELL PARK
Race 6 No2 MAJOR DINO (Nap)
Trainer: Henrietta Knight – Jockey: Paul O’Brien
MAJOR DINO put in a personal best when taking away a cheque at Hereford and should now be ready to deliver in this weak looking bumper. This is just a third outing for the Doctor Dino gelding, who also stretches out to a slightly longer distance.
KEMPTON PARK
Race 2 No6 CHAPMAN’S PEAK
Trainer: Ed Dunlop – Jockey: PJ McDonald
The one with the points on the board in this 1600 metres handicap is CHAPMAN’S PEAK. He posted back-to-back successes at this course when closing out his 2025 campaign, and was in need of the race when reappearing at Bath. He will enjoy this return to his favoured surface.
Race 5 No6 BLUE PRINCE (Each Way)
Trainer: David Evans – Jockey: Saffie Osborne
Since scoring at the 2024 Qatar Goodwood Festival BLUE PRINCE seems to have lost his way, resulting in a big drop in the ratings. He has a top female rider in his irons for this Class4 handicap, and it might help him emerge from the wilderness, but only a speculative investment is advised.
Race 7 No9 MAN ON A MISSION (Nap)
Trainer: Peter Charalambous – Jockey: Liam Wright
MAN ON A MISSION is a previous winner at this course and commands abundant respect even though 4lb higher for his recent Southwell triumph. He landed some good bets n that occasion, while the fact that he’s drawn high shouldn’t prove too harmful to his chance when you consider he likes to be held up.
