UTTOXETER

Race 1 No6 I’M A LUMBERJACK
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Philip Armson

I’M A LUMBERJACK might not have found as much as it looked like he would on his latest start but with only three outings under his belt this season there remains scope for progression. He comes with risks attached, but his double figure price is tempting.

Race 2 No5 NAB WOOD (Each Way)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Danny McMenamin

NAB WOOD had been in good form with two wins from his first three outings only to flop at Windsor. The new jumps course there was unfamiliar territory to both horse and his jockey, and off a waiting ride he failed to make any impression on the leaders in the straight. It was a largely wasted exercise, but he didn’t have a hard race, making the prospect of a renaissance today a greater possibility.

Race 3 JENNINGSBET MIDLANDS GRAND NATIONAL HANDICAP CHASE

No2 MY IMMORTAL (Each Way)
Trainer: Barry Connell – Jockey: Mr F Maguire

With 17 runners the day’s feature provides a very good betting heat and includes three Irish-trained candidates. The pick of these could be MY IMMORTAL, whose double figure price is tempting. When scoring at Punchestown last month the selection was ending a four year wait for a win. He’d been in the wilderness but all credit to him for the way he made most of the running before asserting on the run in for a 40-1 silencer. It was a good ride by Maguire who knows how to get the best out of his mount. AWORKINPROGRESS enters calculations as the winner of seven of his last eight races for Nick Gifford. He’s only once been beaten over fences, and revelled in the deep ground when scoring at this track back in November. JARRIVE DE L’EST journeys here after failing by one to get into the Kim Muir. He brings good form to the table for Emet Mullins who has engaged James Bowen for the ride. JUPITER ALLEN is another who arrives with a progressive profile for a Christian Williams yard that excels with its long distance handicap chaser, and is a must include for exactas, trifectas and quartets.

Prediction: 1st MY IMMORTAL, 2nd Jarrive L’Est, 3rd Jupiter Allen, 4th Aworkinprogress

Race 4 No2 MILCREE (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Richards – Jockey: Danny McMenamin

Richards has had his Greystoke chasers in good order throughout the season, though nothing has impressed me more than MILCREE. Despite an absence of almost two years the eight-year-old made a perfect transition to fences by bolting up at Ayr and backing it up with a game success over Young Jack at Kelso. From his revised mark he needs to find more to land the hat-trick, but he’s very progressive and can.

KEMPTON PARK

Race 4 No6 SOMESPRING SPECIAL
Trainer: Philip Hobbs – Jockey: Sean Houlihan

SOMESPRING SPECIAL has looked improved for a breathing operation, scoring on her second run after that at Chepstow. She enjoys the better ground she’s likely to encounter at this very good draining course.

Race 5 No1 ETNA BIANCO (Nap)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Harry Cobden

My best news at this meeting concerns ETNA BIANCO for whom Cobden is an eye taking booking. The grey was a winner at Ascot in November and has performed well in better company in two subsequent outings. After looking held he stayed on towards the finish last time, suggesting this longer trip will play to his strengths.

Race 7 No1 BROTHER JACK
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Jonathan Burke

Although he’s been quiet with his small team of jumpers Morrison knows how to ready one for a bumper. BROTHER JACK should therefore be closely monitored in the betting, bringing as he does a good profile to the party from a pedigree aspect.

FONTWELL PARK

Race 4 No2 BETGOODWIN
Trainer: Chris Gordon – Jockey: Tom Cannon

BETGOODWIN served up a career best when second on handicap bow at this course. That served as good match practice for the chestnut who should do even better in a race that’s cut up in his favour.

NEWCASTLE

Race 4 No3 YOUNG JACK (Nap)
Trainer: Chris Grant – Jockey: Brian Hughes

While this card is almost devoid of good betting opportunities the exception is YOUNG JACK, who finds himself in a race that’s cut up perfectly. Only three oppose him in this three miles handicap chase and a win would bolster the chances of Milcree at Uttoxeter. The pair were divided by a length and a half at Kelso and a move up to three miles will benefit my Nap.

SOUTHWELL

Race 3 No6 AMERJEET (Nap)
Trainer: Mochael Herrington – Jockey: Billy Loughnane

AMERJEET has the best of the draw in this sprint around a left-handed bend and can make it a first success since joining his trainer. His visits to this course have been sporadic and this is his first time here in eight outings for Herrington. It’s best to draw a line through his underwhelming run at Newcastle, and support him to bounce back.

Race 6 No3 DON SIMON
Trainer: Ed Dunlop – Jockey: Rossa Ryan

DON SIMON was returning from an eight months absence when troubling the judge at Wolverhampton two weeks ago. Although yet to win he’s been comparative lightly raced, and granted a small amount of progression he can get off the mark.
