Selected 1st Round Matches- 1st June

Alex Michelson (30) 0.46 vs Miomir Kecmanovic 1.65

He reached the semifinals in Dallas but fell off a cliff after that. He struggled tremendously during the clay-court swing (outside of a Challenger victory in Estoril). But the two-time Newport runner-up has bounced back commendably during this brief grass-court window, reaching the quarterfinals in Halle before a semifinal finish in Mallorca. Serb Miomir Kecmanovic hasn’t been able to generate any momentum ahead of the year’s 3rd slam. He fell in the first round in Halle before surrendering a one-set lead to Dan Evans in Eastbourne. Kecmanovic won his 2nd career title in Delray Beach but has failed dismally either side of that. Having said that, Kecmanovic did reach a grass-court final back in 2019 (the Antalya Open). He has also reached the 3rd round at Wimbledon in two of the last three seasons.

The Verdict: Michelson to win in four at 2.75- Michelson and Kecmanovic share the head-to-head spoils at one win apiece, with Michelson winning comfortably at this year’s Estoril Challenger. Kecmanovic, on his day, is a sturdy baseliner who hits it powerfully off both wings. He just lacks self-belief in key moments and tends to play within himself. Michelson is more free-wheeling and confident in his abilities. His whippy delivery and ability to serve and volley should rush the Serb into numerous errors.
