Preview: 2025 WTA Tour Grand Slam Tennis French Open Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France (Outdoor Clay) First Round Matches – Karolina Muchova vs Alycia Parks

I firmly believe that Karolina Muchova would already be a Grand Slam champion were it not for her multifaceted injury issues. At her best, the Czech is one of the most complete players on tour, using her all-court game to take down opponents in a variety of fashions.

Karolina Muchova (14) 0.09 vs Alycia Parks 6

She can play direct tennis and pulverize opponents. But she can also switch it up and counterpunch effectively. However, the four-time Grand Slam semifinalist struggles to play back-to-back tournaments. She picked up a few decent results this year, reaching the semifinals in Linz and Dubai. But she hasn’t played a clay-court match this year due to a wrist issue. The 2023 French Open runner-up will be hoping for muscle-memory to kick in and offset her lack of clay-court preparation. 24-year-old American Alycia Parks will be hoping to take advantage of the Czech’s lack of preparation. The hardcourt specialist started this year in encouraging fashion, reaching her first WTA semifinal since 2023 at the Adelaide Open. But she has struggled to maintain any form of consistency, winning just one of her last seven matches.

The Verdict: Muchova to win in straight sets at 0.33– This will be their first career meeting. Barring physical issues, this should be a walk in the park for Muchova. The ultra-aggressive Parks is quite one-dimensional and Muchova should be able to redirect her power with ease.
