Emergency medical staff rushed onto the court during the third and final set of the WTA Tour match between Ekaterina Alexandrova and Kristina Liutova after Alexandrova suddenly fainted.
The first set was very close, with both players serving well and fighting for every point. Liutova stayed calm under pressure and won the tiebreak 7-2 to take the set 7-6(2), while Alexandrova looked disappointed but remained determined.
In the second set, Alexandrova raised her level, hit the ball with more confidence, and played more aggressively to win 6-4 and level the match. Liutova continued to battle hard but could not stop Alexandrova from forcing a deciding set.
The third set was another close contest, with both players showing great determination despite the difficult conditions. Alexandrova kept fighting for every point but began to struggle physically as the match went on, while Liutova stayed focused and moved ahead 5-4.
The match stopped immediately as doctors and medical staff treated the world No. 19 on court. After receiving medical attention, Alexandrova was unable to continue and was forced to retire from the match, giving Liutova the win. The final result was recorded as 7-6(2), 4-6, 5-4 (retired) in Liutova’s favour.
Liutova’s next opponent is Maya Joint, and both players have never faced each other in a professional match.
Joint turned professional in 2024 after a successful junior career and has made a strong start on the WTA Tour. The Australian has already won two WTA singles titles and has climbed to a career-high world ranking of No. 41.
