The son of Flying The Flag tries the 1200m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can go one better. He is carded to race on 09 February 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 4: BRONZE SWORD (1)
Jockey: R Simons – Trainer: S Pettigrew
BRONZE SWORD showed good improvement when fourth in his last start over 1600m on the Standside course. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish suggests that he will be suited to the 2000m. The son of Silvano has plenty of scope and from pole position, he may be the one to beat.

RAFFLES stayed on at the finish over 1400m last time, but found one too good in the form of Unzen. He finished third in his only attempt on this course. The son of Time Thief drops to 1200m and he will be doing his best work at the finish. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
Race 8: TULIP TREE (5)
Jockey: D De Gouveia – Trainer: S Pettigrew
TULIP TREE was a tad disappointing in her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She has won twice from three starts on this course. The daughter of What A Winter returns to Handicap Company and she is capable of notching up her third career victory.

Jockey: R Venniker – Trainer: P Matchett
LIGHT OF DAY finished 3.5 lengths behind JUST BE NICE last time. She is 6kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won once and finished second once from three starts over this distance. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand.
