ARUMUGAM was an easy winner of the Listed Racehorse Owners Association Stayers last time. He returns from a well-deserved 10-week break. The son of Duke Of Marmalade won his penultimate outing over this C&D. He carries another handy galloping mass of 52kgs and can notch up the hat-trick.

Jockey: R Fourie – Trainer: S Tarry
BIG BURN is one of the better bets on today’s card. She was super-impressive when winning her last start over 1100m on this course. She showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Elusive Fort is in a very good space and with Richard Fourie in the irons, she should notch up her eighth career victory.

GIMME A SHOT has been ultra-impressive in her last two victories. She showed good speed over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She won the Grade 2 Ipi Tombe Challenge over this C&D in her penultimate run. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has plenty of class about her and she is the horse to beat.

Race 8: QUEEN OF SHADOWS (7)
Jockey: K Brewer – Trainer: A Laird
QUEEN OF SHADOWS’ last two starts over this C&D have been good. She took on stronger company last time, but stayed on to finish third. She finished 1.35 lengths behind EMERALD PRINCESS in her penultimate effort. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. From pole position, she is capable of returning to winning ways. She is carded to race on 02 February 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
