Race 5

OWARI has only had the two runs to date, but he has finished second in both of them, the latest over a mile, just a short-head behind the winner. He jumped awkwardly that day and shifted out over the last 300M as well as losing an off-hind shoe, so he can be regarded as an unlucky loser. He gets draw five and will be hoping to go one better. As such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

HIGHER HAND has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when second over 1500M, two and a half lengths adrift of the victor, but he overraced in front on that occasion and was only run out of it late. The gelding is drawn wide in gate ten, but he should be right up there when they hit the line.

STEAM CLOCK has also had just the two starts, finishing fifth over six furlongs first time out and then third last time out over a mile, just over two lengths back from the winner, this after racing wide without cover. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and from one gate inside the latter, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

A 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but MISS VIOLET is taken to lead the field home. She has won two of her last three starts and finished second in the other, the latest victory coming over five furlongs when putting 2.3L between herself and the opposition. She showed plenty of toe that day and is sure to put her pole position to good use.

FLORIDA SKY goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1100M and the latest over five furlongs by 0.8L, when returning from a 20-week break. She was slow away that day and was disappointed for a run at the 400M mark, but struck the front at the 150M pole to win going away. She has pulled a handy draw two and should be viewed as a big runner here.

NASDAQ DUBAI followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same sprint distance, just over eleven lengths back from the winner, but that was in very heavy going. He jumped awkwardly and overraced the entire trip before coming three wide into the home straight. In addition, he was reported to be lame in his near-fore, so that effort is best ignored. Whilst draw wideish in gate seven, he should nevertheless be included in all bets.

Race 7

SPEAK NOW won his penultimate outing over 1500M and then shifted out from the 200M mark, but still stayed on well when ending up in third spot last time out over 1500M, two and a half lengths adrift of the winner. He has his first run after a 24-week break, but has had the benefit of three barrier trials. Notwithstanding a wideish gate seven, he looks to be the one to side with here.

CAPITAL ASSET came three wide into the home straight, but made good late progress to finish fourth last time out over six furlongs, just over a length and a half off the victor. From his kinder draw two, he should keep the top pick honest.

PHAROAH’S REIGN is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she had solid form prior to finishing eighth last time out over a mile, 11.8L behind the winner and was immediately rested for 17 weeks. She returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest and from her useful draw four, she should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, ORTHIE’S GIRLS is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, just under two lengths back from the winner. She jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner and then had to be held up at the 200M mark, only seeing daylight at the 150M pole. She will have to negotiate gate ten, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas.

HASTEN DELIGHT won on debut over six furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. He kicked clear of the field at the top of the home stretch and then fought back after being headed at the 200M mark for a courageous victory. The gelding is drawn in gate seven and whilst taking on stronger here, he may well be up to the task at hand.

NOTIFIES is a 4yr old filly who raced three wide without cover and then came four wide into the home straight, before hanging in and bumping another runner at the 300 mark to end up in third place last time out over five furlongs, two lengths behind the winner. She is drawn even wider in gate nine, but she should be doing her best work late.
