Race 5
There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners DAKARAI may well prove to be the best. He has consistent formlines to his name, finishing second last time out over 1100M, 2.3L behind the winner, despite coming five wide approaching the home turn. He returns from an 18-week break and has his first run for the powerful Chris Waller stable. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here jumping from gate five.
SEQUESTERED is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over 1100M and then second next time out over six furlongs, beaten just a short-head. She came four wide into the home straight that day but stayed on well over the closing stages. She will have to negotiate a wide gate eleven, but she should be doing her best work late.
BARMERA was slow away and bumped at the 200M mark when ending up in sixth place last time out over seven furlongs, 2.7L back from the victor, but the form of that race has been franked. He jumps from gate seven and should be included in all bets.
Race 6
OXFORD VISION has cracked pole position and has his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over five furlongs, albeit by just a head. The gelding hit the front at the 200M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire.
FLOWER PRESS is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she won over six furlongs four and three runs back before missing out on her hat-trick in her penultimate start over six furlongs. She then made good late progress to finish third last time out over 1300M, just one and a half lengths off the winner. From her handy draw four and with ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
LAMBDOMA ENERGY followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a third-place finish next time out over the same trip, 1.3L back from the winner, but he had to be held up at the top of the home straight before being denied a clear run at the 200M pole, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding will have to deal with a wide draw nine, but he will be hoping to chalk up his third career victory today.
Race 7
The day’s value bet, FLYING DESTINY jumped awkwardly but recovered quickly to show plenty of early toe to win first time out over six furlongs by a neck. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat. He will have to deal with a wideish gate eight, but he will have Keagan Latham in the saddle to aid his cause.
TURN UP THE NIGHT won over six furlongs on debut and then finished fifth over the same c&d next time out, two lengths behind the winner. He is drawn one outside the top pick, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much energy.
SURREAL LILY is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she showed solid improvement to win her maiden race last time out over six furlongs by two lengths, notwithstanding being bumped at the start. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but on the plus side, she will get 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.
Race 8
FIELD MARSHAL is two for two, winning on debut over six furlongs and then by 0.8L second time out over 1300M, despite overracing in the early and middle stages. The colt has a useful draw four and has his fist run after a 12-week rest, but he did win his only barrier trial to showcase his well-being. The form of that last race has been franked and he could give the trainer/jockey combination of Chris Waller and Brenton Avdulla the opening and closing legs of the day’s Jackpot. As such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.
STONECOAT is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over a mile, just a head back from the winner and the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding will have to overcome a wide gate fifteen and returns from a 24-week spell, but he has had the benefit of three barrier trials.
THE DENZEL put his disappointing penultimate run over seven furlongs behind him to finish second last time out over six furlongs, just a half-length behind the winner. He was returning from a 20-week break that day and was bumped at the start and overraced in the early and middle stages, so he could be considered an unlucky loser. The gelding faces a wide draw ten, but he should still be involved in the finish.
