“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is.

“The last couple of years gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different, but I also need to think about my long-term career so I will do everything possible to get back 100 per cent.

“I will thank you already in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon on court again. Ciao ciao!”

Sinner’s last match was the Wimbledon final, where he beat Alexander Zverev 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 to win the title. After Wimbledon, the 25-year-old started feeling pain in his right knee and visited an orthopedic clinic in August for further tests.

The injury forced him to miss the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open before he pulled out of the US Open. It was the first Grand Slam he had missed since making his debut at the 2019 US Open.

His team also added to the statement and wrote,” On the advice of his medical team, Jannik Sinner will follow a course of treatment for inflammation in his knee.

“The decision has been made to have the treatment now to give Jannik the necessary time to recover before beginning preparations for 2027.

“As a result, Jannik will be unable to compete again during the 2026 season.”

Sinner has won 35 ATP singles titles in his career, including five Grand Slam titles. He first became the world No. 1 on June 10, 2024, becoming the first Italian player to reach the top spot in the ATP rankings.

He stayed at No. 1 for 65 weeks before Carlos Alcaraz took the top ranking from him in September 2025 after winning the US Open. Sinner returned to No. 1 in April 2026 after winning the Monte-Carlo Masters.
