The tournament organisers posted a firing video of Kyrgios announcing his return. The 30-year-old last stepped into court at the Miami Open in March after Karen Khachanov defeated him.

Kyrgios still has to face women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match on December 28. Then he will compete in the Kooyong Classic warm -up exhibition event in Melbourne in January as he prepares to play on home soil at the Australian Open.

For the past three years, Kyrgios has been dealing with multiple back-to-back injuries. He underwent wrist surgery in 2022, and he had a serious issue with his foot and knee in 2023, which continued into 2025.

Kyrgios is not the only big-name taking part in the event; the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, Grigor Dimitrov, and Joao Fonseca will also be there at the Brisbane International, set to take place from January 4 to 11.

Kyrgios is also set to make his return to Rod Laver Arena at the 1 Point Slam, joining world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The 48-player field featuring a blend of professionals, amateurs, and celebrity wildcards will compete for a prize pool of £498,000.
