Kyrgios projected a strong and fit image at the start of the match, but the 29-year-old’s visible pain eventually took a toll, forcing him to abandon the match while trailing 7-6 (9-7) 3-0.

Nick Kyrgios was out for the past 18 months recovering from knee and wrist injuries before returning earlier this year. While in recovery mode, he was still involved in the world of tennis as a tennis commentator and interviewer for the Australian Open and tennis events.

Speaking on Tennis TV after the match Kyrgios believes reality is kicking in

“This process has been extremely probably one of the biggest challenges. I’ve faced in my life and reality it’s not too bad but for my tennis career it’s by far the biggest”.

Kyrgios last won in a major tournament in 2022 at the Australian Open alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis in the men’s.

His most recent major final appearance was at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, where he lost against Novak Djokovic by 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3).

Concluding his response about his injury, the Australian star said he will take some time out before deciding to take part in other tournaments as he continues to struggle with a sharp discomfort pain on his wrist.

“I’ll try and do all the right things to settle it down. I guess it’s back to the drawing board as a team and we just try and figure out to navigate a way to just get through these matches.

Kyrgios is scheduled to play in the Miami Open which begins on the 18th of March.
