Sierra started the match strongly and took full control of the opening set, while Raducanu struggled badly with her timing and made 15 unforced errors.

Sierra broke Raducanu’s serve twice during the set and comfortably wrapped it up 6-0.

In the second set, Raducanu improved her level and fought much harder from the baseline, making the contest more competitive and forcing a tiebreak.

Sierra remained calm under pressure, continued to play aggressively, and won the tiebreak 7-4 to complete the straight-sets victory.

Speaking to the media after the match, Emma Raducanu blamed the weather conditions for her struggles, as she found it difficult to control the ball throughout the match.

“I felt like the conditions were extremely lively, and I felt like I wasn’t able to kind of trust my shots in that and didn’t feel like I had control over the ball.

“I think I haven’t played matches, and it’s obviously very difficult coming in not having ;any matches towards the back end of the clay season

“I didn’t necessarily do as well as I’d like to this year, but I think the only way to kind of face and improve how I’m feeling is to go through the tough parts, to go through the pain of it, and hopefully come out on the other side better and stronger.”

Sierra’s second-round opponent at the French Open has not been confirmed yet. Sierra started playing professional tennis in 2018 and has improved quickly over the years.

The 21-year-old from Argentina is currently ranked World No. 64 in women’s tennis.

She has not won a major WTA singles title yet, but she has won several smaller ITF tournaments during her career.

At the French Open, Sierra usually has not gone very far in the tournament. Before this year, her best result was reaching the first round in 2025 after qualifying for the event.
