The event – Plumpton Racecourse
Hollywoodbets is proud to announce its sponsorship of two races on the programme taking place at Plumpton Racecourse on the 21 December, 2021.
It will be the company’s first appearance on a UK racetrack, having previously featured at Dundalk and The Curragh in Ireland. The betting operator does, however, have an existing presence in British horse racing with the sponsorship of jockeys Daniel Muscutt and Jamie Moore.
As well sponsoring races, Hollywoodbets will feature in the race day programme and on the course’s big screen. The grooms in the sponsored races shall receive a monetary reward, whilst there will be a further prize for the best turned out horse in each race.
A quick history – Plumpton Racecourse
11 February 1884 – Plumpton hosts its first ever horse racing meeting. The first race on the card was a Hunters’ Selling Hurdle, won by Cowlsip with Harry Escott on board as the jockey. Escott would go on to record a treble that day, including riding a second winner on Cowslip.
The first steeplechase was won by Olanleigh, ridden by his owner Capt. Fisher. A total of four days racing took place in 1884. Topsy was the first favourite to record a victory at Plumpton on 2 June, priced at 6/4.
1998 – Plumpton Racecourse was purchased by Mr Peter Savill and Captain Adrian Pratt. This came after developers had shown an inteested in turning the course into houses.
2004 – Tony McCoy recorded his 3,000th winner at Plumpton. In the same year, ground staff won an award for keeping the best jumps course.
Where is Plumpton Racecourse?
Plumpton is situated in the rolling hills of East Sussex, less than a mile from the town of Plumpton and within a short walk from Plumpton’s train station.
The Track – Plumpton Racecourse
The course is a left-handed National Hunt track with the hurdles on the outside and the chase jumps on the inner. The circumference is just over a mile with an evident downhill down the back straight and a gradual rise in gradient towards the finish.
Facilities
There are a number of restaurants and bars providing food and beverages all within easy reach of one another.
The country atmosphere and layout ensures the parade ring and course are within a short distance of one another, enabling race goers to have an excellent pre and post-race view of their selections.
