Union Berlin travel to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.
Bayern head into the Bundesliga match before the international break looking to take all three points, but Kompany believes Union’s recent changes under their new coach could make them difficult to predict.
“Union have undergone a major transition. They’ve brought in a very successful coach,” Kompany said at his pre-match press conference.
“The confidence he exudes will also have an impact on the decisions made. Whatever happens, we’re prepared for any changes opponents might make.”
Kompany has been pleased with Bayern’s preparations and confirmed that he has a fully available squad for the match.
“I can only praise our medical unit and athletics department. We’re playing at the very highest intensity,” he said.
“We have the entire squad at our disposal and we want to keep it that way.”
Luis Diaz has also impressed in training during the build-up to the game, giving Kompany confidence that the forward can rediscover his best form.
“He’s scored an incredible number of goals in training. It’s been a good week for him,” Kompany said.
“If he can carry that form into the match, he’ll be right back on track.”
Serge Gnabry is another player expected to feature after returning to full fitness. Kompany believes the Germany international could get minutes in the number 10 position.
“We’ve waited a long time for Serge to give us the green light that he’s feeling well,” he said. “I reckon he’ll get some game time against Union.”
Kompany also offered strong backing to goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, predicting a major future for the young German.
“If anyone thinks he won’t become number one in Germany, they’re making a big mistake,” he said.
“He’ll certainly be Germany’s number one at some point. Jonas has the right mentality. As a country, you have to develop your talent.”
Sporting director Christoph Freund was equally positive about Bayern’s progress and his own future at the club after signing a contract extension until 2029.
“I feel very much at home at the club, especially with the people here,” Freund said.
“We’ve got a lot of things off the ground and want to carry on the work. I enjoy coming to work every day and I’m delighted.”
For Kompany, however, the immediate priority is clear: Bayern must finish the first part of the season with another victory before attention turns to the international break.
“First, we intend to focus on the task at hand and pick up three points against Union,” he said.
