Liverpool have unveiled plans for a permanent memorial at Anfield to honour former forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva following their tragic deaths.
The sculpture, titled “Forever 20” in tribute to Jota’s retired shirt number, will be installed on 97 Avenue outside Anfield, where thousands of supporters gathered to leave flowers, scarves and messages in the aftermath of the brothers’ deaths. Silva’s number 30 shirt, worn during his time with Portuguese second-division side Penafiel, will also feature in the design.
Liverpool released images of the planned tribute on Monday, revealing a flowing heart-shaped structure inspired by Jota’s iconic goal celebration. The memorial will also carry lyrics from the chant sung by supporters in his memory: “He will take us to victory, oh, his name is Diogo.”
In a statement, the Reds said the memorial “celebrates their lives, their bond, and the love and respect felt by family, team-mates and supporters across the world,” adding that it would serve as “a permanent symbol of love, unity and remembrance”.
The sculpture will stand on a Granby rock-faced stone plinth engraved with a dedication to both brothers. The club also confirmed that physical tributes left outside the stadium after Jota’s death have been incorporated into the memorial itself.
Jota and Silva died on July 3 after the Lamborghini they were travelling in veered off the A-52 near Palacios de Sanabria in Zamora before bursting into flames. The tragedy sparked an outpouring of grief across football, particularly on Merseyside where Jota had become a fan favourite.
The Portugal international joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and went on to score 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club. During his time at Anfield he helped the Reds win the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups.
Ahead of Liverpool’s opening Premier League match of the 2026 season against Bournemouth, supporters and players observed a minute’s silence in honour of the forward, while fans continue to sing his song during the 20th minute of matches.
Liverpool have not yet confirmed a date for the unveiling of the “Forever 20” memorial.
