However, chief executive Guy Kinnings has now made it clear that players will have to “make a choice” between the two circuits.

The decision could also have implications for Ryder Cup eligibility, as players must be members of the DP World Tour to qualify for Europe’s team.

Kinnings told BBC Sport: “Players need to make a choice. We have rules and regulations which are there to protect our tour and which our members must all abide by.

“Players who are not willing to comply with our rules and regulations should not be seeking to join our tour.”

LIV Golf’s future has been thrown into uncertainty after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its backing at the end of the season, with the breakaway circuit now undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States.

The series has since secured an initial funding commitment from BC Partners Credit for a potential $300 million (£227 million) investment to support a planned relaunch as LIV 2.0 in 2027.

Several LIV players, including Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Victor Perez and Tom McKibbin, currently retain eligibility to play on the DP World Tour through one of its membership categories.

Rahm, however, is reportedly preparing to leave LIV Golf after rejecting new terms proposed for its relaunch.
