Nick Kyrgios has received a one-month suspension after testing positive for cocaine during a tournament in Mallorca, Spain, in June 2026.
Kyrgios gave a urine sample on June 22, which was later found to contain benzoylecgonine, a substance produced when the body breaks down cocaine.
Under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules, the normal suspension for this type of offence is three months. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) can reduce the ban if a player agrees to take part in an approved treatment programme.
In an interview with ITIA investigators, the 31-year-old explained that he did not take the drug to improve his performance, but he used it “socially” while out with friends before travelling to Mallorca to compete.
Kyrgios posted an apology on his Instagram account and admitted he made a “huge mistake,” and he takes full responsibility.
“I made a huge mistake, and I take full responsibility for it.
“I’m sorry to my fans, my family, my sponsors and everyone close to me. Above all, I’m sorry to the kids who follow me. I know the example this sets and I’m deeply disappointed in myself.”
