FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem welcomed the agreement, praising all parties for working together to address concerns surrounding the planned 2026 power units.
The original regulations introduced a 50:50 split between power generated by the internal combustion engine and the electrical system. However, the concept faced criticism from drivers and teams, who feared cars would lose a substantial amount of performance once battery energy was depleted during races.
After weeks of discussions, Formula 1 stakeholders agreed to increase the contribution from the internal combustion engine. The revised plan will see a 58:42 power split in 2027 before moving to a 60:40 balance in 2028.
To support the changes, fuel flow to the combustion engine will be increased by five per cent in 2027 and by 13 per cent in 2028.
The updated regulations will be submitted to the FIA World Motor Sport Council for formal approval on 23 June and are expected to be passed without difficulty.
Ben Sulayem said the changes reflected Formula 1’s ability to adapt and evolve.
“Formula 1 has always evolved to meet new challenges and seize new opportunities,” he said.
“These proposed changes reflect the collaborative work taking place across the sport to ensure the regulations continue to support exciting racing, technological innovation and long-term sustainability.”
He added that the FIA remained committed to protecting the future of the championship.

The next round of the Formula 1 season will take place at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, which runs from 12-14 June at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.
