Wednesday’s UK racing tips come your way from meetings at Nottingham, Kempton and Ripon on 5 June 2024.
NOTTINGHAM
Race 2 – LEOVANNI 18/10
Newcomers may come to the fore in the Abba Fever Raceday Book Now Ebf Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
Trainer Karl Burke has been in good form of late and LEOVANNI is a two-year-old daughter of Kodi Bear. Ticks plenty of boxes on debut for powerful connections.
Dangers are likely to come from the William Haggas-trained Bermuda Princess along with Sergei Prokofiev debutante Shostakova and Taala.
Race 4 – GRAHAM 18/10
GRAHAM takes a step up to a mile and six furlongs in the Experience Hospitality At Nottingham Racecourse Handicap.
A dual winner over 12 furlongs last year, Richard Hannon’s charge had to settle for third behind Kotari at Ascot last month after disappointing over a mile and a quarter on his seasonal return.
He was not beaten far that day and is related to a couple of staying types.
Race 5 – PHOENIX PASSION 7/2
PHOENIX PASSION continues to thrive for the in-form Ed Walker stable and could prove up to the task of completing a hat-trick after wins over 1m at Windsor and Goodwood.
Baynoona can be taken seriously making handicap debut following a good third attempting a maiden fillies event at Wolverhampton.
It would be hard to ignore Show Biz Kid based on his decent third behind a progressive horse at Epsom.
Race 6 – SNAPCRACKLEPOP 28/10
SNAPCRACKLEPOP won sole start at this venue. Form of his recent runner-up effort tackling this trip at Bath looks solid for the grade and a return to winning ways is anticipated.
Snooze Lane produced best form on all weather. Must enter calculations after finishing off strongly to secure a win at Wolverhampton.
Party Island would hold claims for form shown succeeding at Lingfield in penultimate outing.
KEMPTON
Race 4 – CAT NINJA 9/4
CAT NINJA is the pick in the second division of the Try Unibet’s Improved Bet Builder Novice Stakes.
Narrowly beaten by Run Away on debut, Cat Ninja was on the mark at the second time of asking when holding off Clove Hitch by half a length, with the pair pulling 11 lengths clear of the rest in a maiden event.
She looked a potential black-type performer and this could be a nice step for the Gosden-trained filly.
Race 5 – RASCAL RECKNELL 11/2
RASCAL RECKNELL looked a horse of some potential through the winter and takes the eye in the Unibet Support Safe Gambling Handicap.
Third on debut, with the classy Skellet a place behind, Rascal Recknell again suffered a narrow defeat on his second start before making it third time lucky in February.
He was very keen on that occasion but had more than enough in reserve at the finish, winning by just under three lengths to earn a starting mark of 80.
Kevin Philippart De Foy’s charge sidestepped an intended turf spin at Yarmouth last month due to soft ground but there are no questions about the Polytrack here and he looks as though he could rate a good deal higher yet.
Race 7 – INSANITY 4/1
INSANITY came home strongly from rear of the field to narrowly prevail at Windsor in April.
The Alan King-trained gelding remains unexposed and may prove up to defying the 4lb rise in weights in the Unibet Zero% Mission Handicap.
An authoritative all-the-way winner of a Chester handicap last time Chase The Dollar warrants respect.
Cracksking looked as though the step back up to 1m4f would suit when a narrow second tackling 1m2f at Newbury last outing.
Charging The Thunder remains unexposed with the all weather and could be thereabouts on the back of a fair third-placed finish at Newcastle.
Race 8 – ZORAN 5/2
Booking Oisin Murphy combined with the drop back to Class Five company could see ZORAN return to winning ways.
Produced a very good second over course and distance and rates a leading player in this grade.
Sailing On holds form to feature. Looks interesting now stepping up in trip on all weather debut with first-time cheekpieces applied.
A strong gallop to aim at would aid chances of Moel Arthur who cannot be ruled out after finishing a decent fourth behind Zoran here last time.
RIPON
Race 2 – GOLDEN STRIKE 5/2
GOLDEN STRIKE can pick up where he left off last term in the Yorkshire Accountants Ripon Novice Stakes for Richard Fahey.
Third to a big-money buy on his initial run at Pontefract, Golden Strike did not help himself that day by starting slowly and swerving in the initial strides, running very green in the finish too to be beaten a length and a quarter.
He righted the record the next time at Ayr and he might not need to improve too much to take this heat.
Race 4 – INTERNATIONAL GIRL 15/2
INTERNATIONAL GIRL can complete a Ripon double for Fahey in the weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap.
She proved pretty consistent through the 2023 campaign, placing on four occasions with only one really lacklustre effort on her record over six races.
The six-year-old posted a fair performance on her return at this track last month, when being drawn in stall one of seven runners certainly did not play in her favour.
Beaten just over three lengths, International Girl’s form can be upgraded, with a 1lb drop and a higher draw this time adding further confidence.
Race 5 – HERAKLES 4/1
Trainer Paul Midgley has his sprinters in good order and HERAKLES was a decent third tackling five furlongs at Beverley last time. Looks poised to strike off this mark.
The market could reveal more about the Patrick Morris-trained pair Brian The Snail and Street Life.
Both command respect on their respective reappearances where the former was last seen winning over five and a half furlongs at Bath in September and holds form to play a major role, while the latter finished runner-up in a classified event at Chelmsford during March.
Race 6 – GEORGIE WOOSTER 2/1
The Tim Easterby-trained GEORGIE WOOSTER stayed on well to make a successful handicap debut over seven furlongs at Redcar.
There could be more to come now stepping back up to one mile with a 7lb rise in weights likely not enough to prevent the follow-up in the Ripon Theatre Festival 2nd-7th July Handicap.
Havana Prince scored over course and distance last time out. Might remain competitive off this revised mark.
Angel Of The Bay needs to be included after a good second attempting seven furlongs at Redcar, while Curious Mrs Fox finished runner-up in the previously mentioned course handicap and cannot be discounted.
