KEMPTON PARK
Race 3 No5 PLAGE DE HAVRE (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy
A horse I expect to improve as a five-year-old is PLAGE DE HAVRE. The Le Havre gelding was a regular earner on the all-weather but matched what he’d achieved in that sphere by finishing third in a valuable handicap at York and then winning on his final 2025 start at Haydock. He moves into Listed company for the first time today, but has the scope to cross that divide on the way to better things.
PLUMPTON
Race 2 No1 EDWARDSTONE (Nap)
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Tom Cannon
EDWARDSTONE concedes four years and up in age to his opponents in the Sussex Champion Chase, but following a select campaign he is fresh and ready to make it a winning first career visit to this track. He took out the Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton at Christmas and ran well for a minor cheque in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase in February. The concession of 13lbs to SECRET DES DIEUX will not be easy, but he’s in great form for what could be his final race.
Race 4 No4 TENNESSEE TANGO (Each Way)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
It might be wise to draw a line through TENNESSEE TANGO’s underwhelming run in the very competitive EBF Final at Sandown. Pulled up on that occasion, he can bounce back in this novices’ handicap hurdle in which PERCY SHELLEY is also worth supporting and, worth a saver.
Race 5 No3 RIVERS CORNER
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
The Sussex National looks an ideal race for RIVERS CORNER, who seeks a third success from his last four starts. He came home unchallenged in the Somerset National at Wincanton, and though pulled up in the Grand National Trial at Haydock bounced back to just last home in a staying chase at Exeter. There’s every chance he will enjoy this tight track, and especially if he can get onto an easy lead.
Race 6 No6 A TICKATICKATIMING
Trainer: Sheena West – Jockey: Marc Goldstein
A TICKATICKATIMING attracted support on a recent visit to this course and though racing enthusiastically for much of the journey was ultimately run out of it. That was only his fourth outing of the season, and he’s now fully primed to make this a first victory in almost three years.
HEREFORD
Race 1 No4 NEON DREAM (Nap)
Trainer: Alan King – Jockey: Thomas Bellamy
NEON DREAM came back from a wind op to run into a hare that never came back here last month. It was nevertheless a solid effort, which if repeated should see him open his account under Rules.
Race 3 No1 KINGDOM OF STARS (Each Way)
Trainer: Kerry Lee – Jockey: David Bass
KINGDOM OF STARS showed nothing before his recent run at this course where after briefly threatening he weakened. There’s something about that effort that convinces me he can win a race over jumps, and this is his first run in a handicap.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 3 No2 MAGICIAN OF RIGA
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Sean Levey
Front runner MAGICIAN OF RIGA proved easy to back on his second AW start here last month but for much of the way looked like preserving his lead. It was a big step up on his previous outing when despite being supported he totally failed to fire. He’s now getting the hang of what’s required, and can open his account.
Race 6 No7 RAIN CAP
Trainer: John Riches – Jockey: Sean Kirrane
RAIN CAP is well drawn for this 1200 metres sprint around a left handed bend. His near miss over course and distance last month was his best effort in a while, and one he can progress from.
