INFINITE DREAM – York, September 7th

INFINITE DREAM proved the one for money in what turned out to be a very messy maiden. He was picking up and held every chance only to be carried violently left when eventual runner-up Valenday swerved at the quarter pole. In a chain reaction he was the worst affected, and though keeping on for fourth the interference ruined his winning chance. He rates an unlucky loser and I will back him to put the record straight next time he runs.

ALMERAQ – York, September 7th

ALMERAQ started a warm favourite for this Listed affair from which he is lucky to escape unscathed. He was waiting for room two furlongs out when clipping heels with another horse and taking a very heavy fall, in the process bringing down Tiger Bay. This unfortunate incident may leave a scar, but if not he should prove worth following as a winner with potential to contest Group races Through the autumn.

MEZCALA – Haydock Park, September 6th

MEZCALA lacked experience moving into this competitive handicap which ultimately cost him in what proved a tactical race. He was the second of two horses that tried to make a beeline for the stands’ rail only to arrive a stride too late and find himself behind a wall of horses. Still hard on the bridle, he didn’t find racing room until it was too late to catch the gate to wire winner Special Ghaiyyath. Run the race again, and he would almost certainly prevail, and he emerges as a winner without a penalty.

MAPLEDURHAM – Bath, September 3rd

In a race that worked out perfectly for her trainer, who saddled the one two, MAPLEDURHAM raised her game to post easily her best run of the season. She was initially unable to go with the leaders but approaching the distance picked up to finish best of all, failing by just a head to reel in Ajrad. The step up to a mile clearly suited the filly, who probably needs every inch of that trip.

BLUE BOLT – Sandown Park, August 30th

BLUE BOLT wasn’t too well away and had a mountain to climb turning for home in this Group 3 Atalanta Stakes. She made rapid headway to lead, racing wide and away from the filly that nailed her in the final 100 yards. It was a creditable effort to fail by half a length with a four lengths gap to the third, suggesting Andrew Balding’s filly can make amends through the final weeks of the season.
