MARKET RASEN

Race 4 No8 C’EST DIFFERENT (Nap)
Trainer: Sam Thomas – Jockey: Dylan Johnston

C’EST DIFFERENT skipped a fancy entry two weeks ago, but the fact he’d been considered for that race gives away the esteem in which he’s held by his upwardly mobile trainer. Having bolted up on his last two outings he remains unexposed with regard to this step up in trip, and by completing a hat-trick on seasonal return can show that he’s a blot on the handicap.

Race 5 No2 PAGGANE
Trainer: Faye Bramley – Jockey: Harry Cobden

Marsh Wren is a classy operator but the fact she hasn’t raced for a year is worrying. The ‘now’ horse in this mares’ Listed chase is PAGGANE, who is versatile regarding the trip, and who put down a market at this level when scoring at Carlisle. She will surely prove be hard to beat.

Race 6 No4 SEASMOKE
Trainer: Billy Aprahamian – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

While her stable has been a tad quiet, SEASMOKE can give it a boost by taking out the three mile handicap chase. The mare has few miles on her racing clock, and should have benefitted from her first run back four weeks ago. This looks the right amphitheatre for her to step up to the plate.

WETHERBY

Race 5 No6 PADDY O’MAHLER (Nap)
Trainer: Sue Smith – Jockey: Peter Kavanagh

PADDY O’MAHLER indicated when second on his first run over fences at Market Rasen that he’s benefitted from a breathing operation. A mistake two out didn’t help his cause as he came clear of the field with the eventual winner. A winner over hurdles last season, he just needs to show he can jump these stiff Wetherby fences if he’s to go be better.

Race 6 No8 MIDNIGHT BELLA (Each Way)
Trainer: Sue Smith – Jockey: Peter Kavanagh

Smith can also strike a blow of some kind with MIDNIGHT BELLA, who looks to hold good win and place claims in the nightcap. She’s a well bred filly by Westerner, and on the basis of her encouraging first run at Carlisle when just out of the money should be well worth a market check.

SOUTHWELL

Race 5 No7 WESTCOMBE (Nap)
Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott – Jockey: Luke Morris

A market check is also advised on WESTCOMBE, who didn’t show his true ability when fourth on handicap debut at Leicester. Almost six months have elapsed since that first run of the year which suggests the Ghaiyyath gelding could have had training issues. Regardless of that, he should benefit both from stretching out to a longer trip and a switch to the all-weather.

Race 9 No10 BALDOMERO
Trainer: Mick Appleby – Jockey: Alistair Rawlinson

At the end of this card BALDOMERO can prove he’s a bet worth waiting for. He raised his game to score on a rare AW run at Southwell which should have given him a confidence lift, while he’s been handed the pick of the draw on this turning 1200 metres.

NEWCASTLE

Race 4 No11 EMMA’S LETTER
Trainer: Ed Dunlop – Jockey: Rob Hornby

EMMA’S LETTER can play the experience card to telling effect in this weak novice. The Saxon Warrior filly was a 400-1 shot when second at Leicester and also easy to back when filling the same slot at Wolverhampton. However, there was clearly no fluke about those performances, and she can open her account.

Race 8 No6 TIRIAC (Nap)
Trainer: Paul Midgley – Jockey: Barry McHugh

After 30 straight races on turf TIRIAC made the best possible start to a belated career on sand when coming through late to score at this course last week. He remains at the 1000 metres trip and needs to be taken seriously, as he looked to score with something up his sleeve that day.

CHELMSFORD CITY

Race 2 No3 SEEWAY (Nap)
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: Toby Moore

SEEWAY has stayed on to claim minor cheques on his last two of three starts at Salisbury and Newmarket. He remains at the 1400 metres trip for this first run in a handicap, and should give a good account.

Race 5 No3 MISTER SANDMAN
Trainer: Gary Moore – Jockey: Tom Queally

MISTER SANDMAN attracted support and put in a pleasing first run for Moore when doing all his best work at the finish behind Camelot Days at Bath. He compromised his chance with a slow start, and can’t afford a repeat as he will break from the rail and needs to be handier.

Race 6 No5 BLUE SIAM (Each Way)
Trainer: Hugo Palmer – Jockey: Charles Bishop

BLUE SIAM isn’t bred to stay this far but the Blue Point filly upped her game when placed over a mile and a half at Newcastle which was a career best effort. She’s asked to go even further here, but it should bring about further improvement. BELLE AMIE and FORGLEN might be worth placing around the selection in exotics.
