HEREFORD

Race 3 No1 SEASMOKE
Trainer: Billy Aprahamian – Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

SEASMOKE proved easy to back but put up a solid enough showing at Ffos Las to claim a minor cheque. The Market Rasen winner is proving a victim of her own consistency, but should be happier on this less galloping track and make it a fifth earning run in as many races since going chasing.

Race 4 No7 LAU AND SHAZ (Nap)
Trainer: Kayley Woollacott – Jockey: Harry Cobden

Since her arrival from Ireland, LAU AND SHAZ has fared well with a success at Wincanton. She was then bowling along in front when falling at Windsor, in an incident that happened too far out to say she would have won. Cobden rides this course as well as any of the senior jockeys and he can take his mount to the front and lead from gate to wire.

Race 7 No4 LUCKY BERE
Trainer: Kayley Woollacott- Jockey: Harry Cobden

The same trainer/jockey combination should be to the fore with LUCKY BERE in this concluding handicap hurdle. The selection has benefitted from a breathing operation, and that manifested itself in his tactically astute triumph at Wincanton where Cobden made most of the better ground in the straight. From his revised mark he has a solid chance to follow-up.

WETHERBY

Race 2 No1 BOBBY’S NELSON (Nap)
Trainer: Philip Hobbs – Jockey: Sean Houlihan

Three penalised recent winners should dominate proceedings but it will take something smart to thwart BOBBY’S NELSON, who stylishly ended a run of seconditis at Ffos Las. He arrived cruising on the bridle at the second last flight, and when given the office surged clear. He’s a good prospect from a yard doing well with its novices.

Race 4 No7 EXPRESS SURPRISE (Each Way)
Trainer: Clive Boultbee-Brooks – Jockey: Ned Fox

EXPRESS SURPRISE won here before Christmas and followed up in good style at Uttoxeter on New Year’s Eve. His latest offering was when claiming a minor cheque at Windsor, but that was arguably a better race than this and he kept on well up the straight. Taking into account the 3lb claim of his conditional jockey he’s getting plenty of weight from the others, making his an alluring proposition.

SOUTHWELL

Race 2 No2 SKYCUTTER
Trainer: Stella Barclay – Jockey: Steve Donoghue

SKYCUTTER might not be the force of old but this Flat, hurdles and chase winner has fared well by troubling the judge on both starts for his current trainer. He’s entitled to again get into the shake up in a race where another dual purpose horse can also earn in the form of MOAB.

Race 3 No9 HERETIC (Nap)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Andrew Mullen

IMOLA has been running well and should again finish on the premises, but at a longer price HERETIC is just preferred. Both his career triumphs happened here, and while taking a walk in the market he posted a very good effort to finish in front of his rival at the end of last month. He’s in a good place and can do better.

KEMPTON PARK

Race 5 No2 ALL MOONSHINE (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy

ALL MOONSHINE has done this column a couple of good turns, especially when returned 9-2 when opening her account at Southwell. She landed some good bets under a hard ride when following up at Wolverhampton last month, and while not exactly thrown in for this first run in a handicap needs taking seriously for a trainer/jockey combo that command the utmost respect.

Race 8 No2 TOKEN GESTURE
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Hollie Doyle

TOKEN GESTURE was also all out to dead heat here last month before being awarded the contest in the Stewards’ room. Hollie Doyle excelled on the grey whose only successes have happened at this course. The selection has the advantage of the rail, having been given time to recover from those exertions.
