MARKET RASEN
Race 1 No5 PERCY VEERING
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: Jack Hogan
PERCY VEERING made a pleasing start to the campaign when second over three miles here but has been conspicuous in his absence since that November effort. What the run showed was not only that a close season wind op had worked, but also that the gelding is as good as ever, and he can go be better.
Race 2 No1 WELLINGTON ARCH (Nap)
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr
This looks a fine opportunity for WELLINGTON ARCH to resume winning ways, and at the main expense of Indemnity. The selection boasts a Carlisle success sandwiched between two good runs in defeat, and 8n spite of being lumbered with a 7lb penalty ought to be good enough.
Race 4 No5 HOLD UP LA COLMINE
Trainer: Philip Hobbs – Jockey: Mickeal Nolan
HOLD UP LA COLMINE made progress to trouble the judge on a second run back at Windsor which makes him of interest on only a third outing over fences today. The latest evidence that he’s retained his ability came after a massive 21 month absence and is form that’s there to be improved on.
NEWCASTLE
Race 1 No2 MEDIA MOGUL
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Billy Loughnane
MEDIA MOGUL claimed a minor cheque on handicap debut at Kempton which gives the Advertise gelding something to build on. He appeared to get the trip well, and has been dropped 1lb. Recent scorer Flying Scotsman and Market House make this an interesting heat with, those three taken to dominate.
Race 3 No1 BERKSHIRE WHISPER (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Jason Watson
BERKSHIRE WHISPER has to concede 2lb to fellow penalised foe Noble Victory but should be up to the task in hand. He’s better than he showed in his win at Kempton where he displayed a tendency to hang, and will be happier racing on a straight 1200 metres.
Race 6 No8 BELLAGIO MAN
Trainer: Antony Brittain – Jockey: Alex Jary
BELLAGIO MAN has posted a handful of frame finishes since his course and distance triumph before Christmas. He was the minor earner in a three way blanket finish at the end of last month, and if repeating that level of form should definitely get into the shake-up.
SOUTHWELL
Race 3 No2 ALICE’S IMPACT (Nap)
Trainer: David Evans – Jockey: Rossa Ryan
Ryan is an eye catching booking for ALICE’S IMPACT who signalled with a near miss under the same jockey at Lingfield that she’s on the cusp of a breakthrough. The Massaat filly reacted well to a first time visor that day, and having troubled the judge on her only previous visit to this course is ready to progress from that and take the spoils.
Race 6 No3 MISS ATTITUDE (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Charles Bishop
Channon has scored with his last four runners and that sequence can be further stretched by MISS ATTITUDE. The Cityscape mare was progressive in scoring at Class4 level before going close in a Class2 at the big Goodwood Festival. She looked in good order blowing out for this on her trainer’s newly laid all-weather strip yesterday.
Race 9 No2 GOZO
Trainer: Ben Brookhouse – Jockey: Callum Shepherd
GOZO has been only an occasional visitor to the race track over the past year but a solid second at Wolverhampton three weeks ago is enough to tell us he’s going to make up for lost time at the age of five. His trainer looks to have found the right race for him.
