AYR

Race 3 No1 APACHE TRIBE (Nap)
Trainer: Noel Kelly – Jockey: Mr Oran McGill

APACHE TRIBE is new to hurdling but arrives on the back of a wide margin success in a Listowel bumper. He’s proven over the trip and this slightly better ground will play to his strengths in a match up with fellow Irish-trained runners DUBHAIN and GREEN ANGEL.

Race 5 No1 FOLLOW CHARLIE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mike Smith – Jockey: Ben Smith

FOLLOW CHARLIE holds no secrets from the handicapper and needs to bounce back from an underwhelming effort last time, for which he has been dropped 1lb. However, he’s shown before that he can recover quickly from a couple of disappointing runs, and three of his four career successes have happened at this track.

LINGFIELD PARK

Race 4 No8 UNKNOWN JOURNEY
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Jack Doughty

UNKNOWN JOURNEY is one who could up his game in this first leg of the classified stakes. A long-standing maiden, he contested for the lead throughout over course and distance at the end of last month which was an earning step in the right direction. He’s operating at the bottom level of the AW programme, and has the pick of the draw.

Race 6 No4 DARK SUN
Trainer: James Bennett – Jockey: Laura Coughlan

Bargain basement purchase DARK SUN faces her best winning chance in a while after a near miss over the course and distance last month, in which she was inched out by a well supported opponent. The Dark Angel mare has troubled the judge on five of nine starts since joining her trainer as his only horse, so this would be a fairytale success.

Race 7 No7 METALLO (Nap)
Trainer: John Butler – Jockey: Luke Morris

METALLO is a very interesting betting proposition on a first run out of the Butler stable. The Salisbury winner brings good AW form to the table. He’s had minor training issues, but with a hood fitted for the first time has to be worth a market check.

NEWCASTLE

Race 3 No8 AUSPICIOUS (Each Way)
Trainer: Nigel Tinkler – Jockey: Alex Jary

If he can resume at the same level as where he left off last year, AUSPICIOUS needs taking seriously. His only run in a handicap resulted in an all the way triumph over this course and distance in which the first two drew clear. It was his first run on sand and only a fourth in all, making him a horse with plenty of room for progression.

Race 6 No7 NORTHERN ATTITUDE (Nap)
Trainer: Joey Ramsden – Jockey: Lewis Edmunds

In a good place to shake off his maiden tag, NORTHERN ATTITUDE provides considerable interest. He was a bit too keen for his own good on a first run for the Ramsden stable at Southwell but, delivered with a sustained run, he was bearing down on the horse that beat him at the line. His trainer has had more time to get to know him, making him the one to beat.

Race 7 No1 CHRIS’S MATE
Trainer: Gary Harrison – Jockey: Jack Nicholls

The hooded CHRIS’S MATE was having a third outing at Gosforth Park when opening his account at classified level last month. Considering how keen he was to get on with things he found a good increase in pace to ensure victory and there’s no reason why he can’t build on the win, one that proves 1400 metres is his optimum trip.
