WINCANTON
Race 3 No1 AMBION VIEW
Trainer: Joe Tizzard- Jockey: Brendan Powell
The first of two very good chances for the Tizzards is AMBION VIEW. Though proving easy to back he dug deep to inch home on his hurdling bow at Exeter, confirming the promise shown in a couple of earning bumper runs last season. He will greatly enjoy stepping up in trip today, and might have a fitness edge on market rival Tinkler Hill.
Race 4 No7 SUNSET MARQUESA (Nap)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
Every bit as strong is SUNSET MARQUESA, who seemed to run into one when beaten on her first run back at Uttoxeter. It’s hard to pour water onto that solid first outing over jumps, and the Walk In The Park mare should prove too speedy for her opponents.
WARWICK
Race 3 No5 HONKY TONK HIGHWAY (Nap)
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Harry Skelton
The only blemish on HONKY TONK HIGHWAY’s first season racing came in the Grade 2 bumper at the Aintree Grand National meeting. Prior to that the Milan mare had prevailed in a point in Ireland and a Sandown bumper. That day she accounted for Rula Bula, who endorsed the form with a smooth success at Market Rasen last week.
Race 4 No1 THE LORD MAID
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: Stan Sheppard
THE LORD MAID took out a maiden hurdle at Clonmel and a novice hurdle at Southwell after joining her trainer in the spring. She landed some good bets on the last named occasion and is ready for a move into handicaps. She’s been afforded top weight under. A welter burden, but has the balance and brawn to handle it on this very fair track.
Race 5 No1 ELDORADO ALLEN
Trainer: Joe Tizzard- Jockey: Freddie Gingell
ELDORADO ALLEN will benefit from the presence of conditional-of-the-moment Gingell in his saddle in this interesting veterans’ chase. The grey hasn’t won for almost two years but shows time and again that he’s near his best when fresh from a break, and this is his first outing since he finished with more horses in front of him than behind in the Grand National in April.
Race 6 No1 REGAL RENAISSANCE
Trainer: Henry Daly – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
REGAL RENAISSANCE has given every impression she will be at least as good over fences as she was over hurdles in a couple of earning chase appearances at her local track of Ludlow. She jumped especially well when stepped up to three miles in an identical race to this at the end of last month, and should find this track within her compass, even though she was well beaten on her only run here over hurdles.
LINGFIELD PARK
Race 1 No9 SEA STREAM (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Hills – Jockey: Sean Levey
Charlie Hills has been parsimonious with his runners but some of his unexposed all-weather team are worth following, including SEA STREAM. The Sea The Stars filly earned on both starts in a select 2024 campaign, has shown she handles the Polytrack surface and is very well drawn for this first run in handicap company.
Race 9 No8 JOHNJAY
Trainer: Roger Teal – Jockey: Joe Leavy
Right at the end of this card JOHNJAY should give a good account. He’s proving difficult to win with, but in fact ticks more boxes than the majority of his opponents and can gain a deserving victory if the cards fall right for him.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 1 No4 FANCY DANCER
Trainer: Ollie Sangster – Jockey: Nicola Currie
FANCY DANCER showed very good gate speed on her debut at Southwell before weakening. Even though she finished with more rivals in front of her than behind, the race should have taught her plenty, and she’s a speculative advice to get into the money in an improved showing.
SOUTHWELL
Race 1 No5 FERNANDO
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: George Downing
FERNANDO hadn’t shown much before raising his game to open his account on his first run in a handicap at Yarmouth. He achieved that with the prospect of more to come, looking good value for the 4lb extra he has to carry this afternoon.
Race 4 No5 PRIDE OF DONEGAL (Nap)
Trainer: Charlie Johnston – Jockey: Billy Loughnane
For the best bet I’m looking towards PRIDE OF DONEGAL, whose trainer’s horses invariably progress a long way from their first runs. The Saxon Warrior colt took a massive walk in the market prior to his fourth at Newcastle, though I fancy with Loughnane in his saddle there will be plenty of support for him this evening.
