DONCASTER

Race 3 No5 SEE THAT SPARK (Each Way)
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez

SEE THAT SPARK failed to cut the mustard when fourth on his first run at Redcar, although the fact he was backed into 2-1 suggests he’d been showing something at home. The Havana Gold gelding will be more streetwise, and can make a bold bid to recoup those losses.

Race 4 No3 APOLLO ONE (Nap)
Trainer: Peter Charalambous – Jockey: Paul Mulrennan

APOLLO ONE looked very unlucky when frequently denied a gap on his latest start at Ascot and ranks as a winner without a penalty in this Listed sprint. The chestnut had on his previous outing finished second in the Portland Handicap over today’s course and distance. His jockey was not at his best last time, and will be determined to redress the balance against hot favourite MONTASSIB.

Race 5 No5 SING THE BLUES
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: James Doyle

Space Blues filly SING THE BLUES gained a no nonsense first success at Goodwood which qualified her for this nursery. If handling the softer conditions she can follow-up for owner Saeed Suhail and trainer William Haggas.

Race 7 No6 DANIELLE
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: James Doyle

I can pass on a good word for roughie JANEY MACKERS who has been going well at home and is worth saving on against the likely winner DANIELLE. The latter, who relishes easy conditions, finished second to Estrange in this race 12 months ago and her conqueror has gone on to heavily endorse the form. On any of her efforts this season the selection is going to prove very hard to beat.

Race 8 No16 MASTER BUILDER (Each Way)
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: PJ McDonald

MASTER BUILDER should give us a good run for our money in the final race of the turf season, the November Handicap. It’s also the betting extravaganza of the day, and my selection arrives off a slipping mark on testing ground that can bring out the best in him. He probably didn’t get the trip when disappointing on his latest outing at Newbury, but should find the mile and a half just his cup of tea.

CASTLE COVE races in the lucky colours of Jon and Julia Aisbitt and after a good effort at Newbury can do better now moved up the distance ladder.

HOPEWELL ROCK is a similarly unexposed performer but is a three-year-old taking on older horses. If having the tough persona required to win this race he could go close, while as a winner of three of his last four outings LORD MELBOURNE needs to be taken seriously.

Prediction: 1st MASTER BUILDER, 2nd Castle Cove, 3rd Lord Melbourne, 4th Hopewell Rock

WINCANTON

Race 4 No1 BLUEKING D’OROUX (Nap)
Trainer: Paul Nicholls – Jockey: Harry Cobden

Grade 2 hurdles winner BLUEKING D’ORO a wasn’t as well suited by the track at the winner when beaten on his first run over fences but has learned a great deal from that experience and can put the record straight.

Race 7 No7 MIRACLES DO HAPPEN
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: James Bowen

MIRACLES DO HAPPEN proved no match for a well supported rival on debut under Rules at Ludlow, but with the benefit of that race under his belt can find the tactical speed to take out the concluding bumper.

AINTREE

Race 4 No5 HIGHLANDS LEGACY
Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill – Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr

DUNSTALL RAMBLER was a decisive winner at Worcester despite needing the run, but has been handed a 12lb rise for his troubles. That dampens my enthusiasm for him against HIGHLANDS LEGACY, who also delivered on his reappearance at Worcester, and takes the confidence lift it provided to post for the O’Neills.

Race 5 No3 OUR POWER (Each Way)
Trainer: Sam Thomas – Jockey: Dylan Johnston

The modification of the Grand National fences has made the course safer but with it taken away much of the drama they used to provide. It would not therefore surprise me if most of the runners in this Grand Sefton Handicap Chase complete the course.

COLONEL HARRY is an interesting inductee to the obstacles and can run well, while JOHNNYWHO will jump and travel, and is one of my long range hopes for the National itself back here next April.

One with the requisites for the two-and-three-quarter-mile test is OUR POWER. He frequently ran well in defeat last season, and while it’s more than two years since he last won he gets on extremely well with Dylan Johnston, and the Thomas yard is on fire.

Prediction: 1st OUR POWER, 2nd Johnnywho, 3rd Colonel Harry

WOLVERHAMPTON

Race 3 No9 ZIGHY (Nap)
Trainer: George Boughey – Jockey: Jack Callan

ZIGHY has squandered a couple of chances, but from a plum draw can put the record straight with a first career win in this fillies’ novice. She should take the spoils at the main expense of her Yarmouth conqueror SILVERY, who has to carry a penalty.

Race 8 No2 BEAUMADIER
Trainer: David Loughnane – Jockey: Jack Callan

BEAUMADIER has won on turf and sand this season with a sequence of earning efforts that make him the one to beat from his favoured rail slot in this 1000 metres dash.
