NEWBURY
Race 3 No4 WYENOT (Nap)
Trainer: Henry Daly – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
As long as WYENOT can get a handle on this novices’ chase from the front she looks a betting proposition. One of two mares in the field, she has undergone a breathing operation since finishing third in a Listed chase at Warwick and is strongly fancied to bounce back with the right man in her saddle.
Race 4 No2 THE BIG CLUBMAN
Trainer: Paul Nolan – Jockey: Sean O’Keeffe
THE BIG CLUBMAN has won and been placed in his short career over hurdles but something was amiss when he finished last of five as a well supported favourite for a Grade 2 race at Limerick at Christmas. Having been given time to get over that reverse, he should operate way better in this move into calmer waters.
Race 6 No6 CHAMPAGNE TWIST (Each Way)
Trainer: Ben Pauling – Jockey: Elliott England
CHAMPAGNE TWIST has given his trainer a few headaches with figures of PPP which makes him a risky proposition. He’s looked a shadow of the horse that scored twice in his novice season and ended up running at the Grand National meeting. If there’s a way of finding the key to him Pauling will, and at his forecast odds he’s a speculative choice.
DONCASTER
Race 4 No3 MINELLA JURY (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Brian Hughes
Hughes rarely rides for the stable of MINELLA JURY a which is a tip in itself for the grey in this handicap hurdle. My selection is lightly raced and unexposed, and having a first outing since undergoing a breathing operation. There’s plenty going for him, while he looks too big if close to his forecast price.
Race 7 No1 ERNE RIVER (Each Way)
Trainer: Nick Kent – Jockey: Kielan Woods
ERNE RIVER is becoming hard to predict and was pulled up on his latest start here. However, his best form is without question on the Town Moor, while he’s having his tongue tied down for the first time, and it could make a difference.
LINGFIELD PARK
Race 4 No1 FERROUS
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Tom Marquand
FERROUS was a convincing winner of this race 12 months ago and with the benefit of a recent prep should be cherry ripe to make history repeat itself. The Dark Angel gelding might have been one gallop short when fourth in the Kachy Stakes here last month where he turned for home on fourth but couldn’t pass any of the three horses in front of him. In fairness he was never closer than at the line, and had a good blow afterwards. Having Marquand back in his saddle should also boost his claims.
Race 6 No6 REGAL ULIXES (Nap)
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Rob Hornby
With few miles on his racing clock REGAL ULIXES is one to watch in the market for a stable doing verybwell with its AW runbers. the Ulysses gelding had endured a few training issues, and was having a first outing for seven months when running too freely on his Newcastle return. the cash that came for him went west on that occasion, but hes learned from that first outing on sand, and can deliver.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 3 No7 STARGLOW
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: Connor Planas
Space Blues colt STARGLOW is the subject of encouraging reports from Newmarket and can make a winning start with Godolphin making the unusual move of booking an apprentice for the ride, who is claiming 3lb.
Race 5 No1 WAY TO DUBAI (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Appleby – Jockey: Jason Watson
WAY TO DUBAI is enjoying a long run of success in coming away with a cheque, as his figures of 3324143 bear out. He does most of his racing at Lingfield and is a rare visitor to Dunstall Park, but in this first run her since November he can get into the shake-up.
Race 7 No3 ANEIRIN’S SWORD (Nap)
Trainer: Jamie Osborne – Jockey: Sean Levey
The best bet on this card is ANEIRIN’S SWORD who looks to end a run of seconditis on this first run at Wolverhampton, and only eighth of his career. Since posting a 14-1 shocker at Chelmsford he’s shown himself to be a progressive operator, something he can underline with a deserved success.
